Zula Beach House and Cottage
Reviewed March 11, 2013

In December 2012 upon visiting the West coast town of Paternoster in the Western Cape we came across a house on the beach. The setting was absolutely stunning. We enquired and booked the house for a weekend in March 2013. Upon booking we were informed that a private flat-let adjacent to the house was rented out to someone else. Under the impression that a R 4000.00 per day (which we now understand is the highest rental in the village) house will be value for money we went ahead and paid for the house for 2 families and 5 children. Upon arriving and to our utter dismay we noticed that the flat was actually part of the property and was occupied by 2 people and two dogs. As animal lovers we do tolerate dogs, but two barking and aggressive little dogs walking into your holiday house when you have toddlers are unacceptable and downright irresponsible of the owner. The people that rented the flat locked the front entrance of the house and as a result we had to walk around the house to get to our cars. There is a fantastic unspoilt beach in front of the house and a municipality sign that says no dogs are allowed on the beach. Obviously this did not detract the flat occupiers from walking their dogs on the beach. What amazed us was the fact that the owners rent out a flat on the beach to 2 people and 2 dogs when they very well know that the Municipality does not allow this. On the second night their was no gas to braai with. For some reason the DSTV in the house run from the same decoder as the flat and the channels were changed constantly by the flat owners forcing us to watch their rather boring Television programmes. We complained with the owner and she then offered a complimentary weekend and in fact emailed us to choose a weekend. The morning we left we called the the owner Toni Shina to ask what we should do with the keys, she told us that the housekeeper was on her way and that we could leave the key in the door, we then left. The next day when we confirmed the complimentary weekend we received the following response:

"After consultation with my husband and Housekeeper, I am unable to offer you a complimentary weekend. You left my home open and vulnerable and you did not respect my home.

Sincerely
Toni Shina"

Somehow we were not surprised at all by the retraction of the offer. On the contrary we were indeed very surprised by the initial offer given the ridiculous set-up we experienced over the weekend. It almost look as if the owner run the house as a backpacker set-up, trying to cramp as many people as possible into the house and flat, thereby gaining maximum return.

Room Tip: Make sure that the flat is not booked when you rent the house, otherwise you will have absolutely no...

In my 23 years of being a leader in the tourism industry, I have never experienced such a client. We value our clients' public feedback and all social media opportunities so that we are continuously able to improve our service and product.
The client's wife was extremely apologetic for the insults that were spoken to me over the telephone as late as 10.30pm.
Our housekeeper informed me that our home had never been left in such a filthy state. Not to mention that they left the property exposed when they left.
This is definitely a case of the less said the better.

Paternoster is a pretty town.
A traditional fisherman's village, with a beautiful building code and miles of sandy beaches don't exactly make it easy to stand out.

Zula, however, does just that.

Situated in the last stand before the beach, this excellently equipped house offers much, much more than just it's views (which for the record are straight up spectacular).
The house has all the mod cons, with a great kitchen and easily sleeps 12. Thanks to a clever layout, it also allows for a great family holiday, with it possible to separate kids and adults well.

Zula is also situated the perfect distance from the actual town, whilst being close enough to enjoy a night out at the infamous 'Panty Bar' or one of the superb local restaurants, it is far enough to avoid any major traffic which can occur during peak season.

Add all this to what is an already reasonable rate, and you'd be silly to go anywhere else.

The family had the most relaxing and glorious time. The beach house is so beautifully situated and allowed the kids to run free on the long beach.
It is also extremely comfortable and everything catered for your every need.
Can't wait to take the friends up for another visit soon.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great, but the one facing the beach is idyllic. I decided to give this one to my f...

I couldnt have asked for more. Zula Beach Cottage is situated on the beach with an uninterrupted sea view. If you are looking for a place to get away from the hubbub of city life this is your destination. The cottage itself is simply but beautifully decorated and has everything you need including DSTV. It is a perfect spot if you feel like time away on your own or wonderful if you want a romantic getaway for two. It is also within walking distance to restaurants and shops. I will definitely be back!!!!

I decided to celebrate my birthday with our family at Zula Beach House. We couldn't have chosen a better spot. The location is perfect and I don't think any other house there is closer to the beach. There are views from nearly every corner. Our labrador, Rupert was even alowed to join in the fun. Thank you Toni, Nora (housekeeper) and Nature for a memory that will stay with us for a lifetime.
The rooms were spacious and the beds very comfortable.
We especially loved the outdoor shower.:))
Thank you!

Most wonderful weekend for two at the cottage. Ideally situated on the beach. Sufficiently private from the main house. Excellent experience dealing with the owner, Toni. Nora, the housekeeper was very attentive and both she and Toni contributed to an most enjoyable stay. Thank you, will revised!! Cottage is comfortable and well equipped.

With a heaving Paternoster village tucked behind our back we enjoyed the most fantastic New Years weekend at Zula beach house in Party-noster.
With it's "on the beach" location and uninterrupted beach vista we truly celebrated the New Year in style.
The main house and cottage are both beautifully appointed, rooms and en-suites are huge and the linen and mattresses are top notch.
The incredibly spacious open plan dining /lounge/verandah area was filled with good food, conversation and laughter right throughout the weekend. All round, it felt like we had our very own little boutique hotel.
If ever one want's to experience the beautiful West Coast or celebrate a special occasion, look no further, just down your long sweeping beach towards the point while you sip on a glass of chilled blanc de noir.
