This shop stocks freshly baked bread, old fashioned sweets, preserves and some quirky gifts. A must see place!

Whenever you visit Paternoster, make sure you pop into this place. It is not only very interesting, but there is such a variety of seafood to purchase, you do not know what to leave, or what to take.I make a point of popping in there when I visit Paternoster, and I do it a lot, as I live close by, so that says something about this little gem. It is as popular as the "Panty Bar" in the hotel, so be sure to visit it - you will not be disappointed.

An innocent old-fashioned shop leads out in the garden with simple tables with african pattern plastic table cloths. The young cook Kobus van der Merwe, son of the owner present himself the small menu written on a blackboard. He has his own principles of food, which comes close to the great restaurants (NOMA?) by using local products (all the time preparing the dishes cutting herbs and flours in the garden for the food) and creating inventive dishes to very reasonable prices. A local fish (Maasbanker boldum) ground to powder served with a sliced salad and ginger, celery and almond. Delicate but taste. Two main courses: Saldanha Bay Black Mussels with smoked Springbok venison adding a sensational new taste to the mussels. Panfried Angelfish fillet with nasturtium, capers and mustard.

We four having travelled two weeks and devoured many (mostly good) meals had found the best of the best in the most simple circumstances. Remarkable. Worth six stars as Superbly Excellent

Although we rode right past the restaurant, which is situated in the Paternoster Winkel, we did find it eventually, and were not sorry that we made the effort to find it, The food is well presented and not something one would expect there. Definitely worth the visit, pricing is reasonable for what one gets.
Lovely relaxing atmosphere under the trees. Kobus also explains exactly what one can order from the menu. Dont miss it.

Behind an unpretentious exterior we could never have expected to eat such a fantastic lunch.
Chef Kobus forages herbs and vegetables in the wild and has a large herbsection in the enclosed courtyard garden where we ate. What a beautiful presentation but also what magnificent tastes! And for that price one eats a mediocre snack in Europe. We were truly surprised at the quality of the food, and also the very friendly service. We will certainly be back this week staying in Paternoster.
