“Wanted to love it, but owner a bit sour”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2014

We went to Gaaitjie for my birthday and we were really looking forward to it. Booking is difficult if they are closed, as there is no voicemail machine, however when I found a number the owner actually answered and told me it was her personal home number. But she didn't seem to mind and took the booking anyway.

We did enjoy everything. The food was great, the wine list was superb and although the service was a little slow, we were on holiday so we didn't mind. The food was truly special. The wine list is really great but we were very disappointed that the only glassware to drink these amazing wines from (we spent quite a bit on wines!) were those horrible ones you find in cheap pubs. Thick rimmed and dumpy, and they did not fit the caliber of wine on offer.

The owner came out to ask how things were, which was such a nice touch, and when we gave her all the good feedback, with only the one negative bit about the wine glasses she basically turned around and stormed off. Quite strange as I would have thought she might have welcomed constructive feedback!!

Anyway, to be honest the food was great and we'd really enjoyed our visit there but I was so upset by the owner's rude behaviour that I won't go back. I hope though that they now have better glasses on offer!

Great restaurant- hard to get into as so small so make sure you book well in advance. Menu small but perfect- had Angelfish Bobotie which I loved then curry for main- again great. Wine lovely. Too full for pudding unfortunately. Great service- would def recommend

If you manage to get a booking, take it. The food is superb, individual, perfect. The location by the beach only adds to the romantic feel.

“Good home cooked fare”

A small but interesting menu and probably fish the thing to eat here. Our meals were excellent. Would have preferred to sit on the stoep so would ask for this next time, but a very enjoyable evening.

“Beachfront location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2014

Great beachfront location with superb view. Smarter than Voorstrand which has similar location. Service professional and friendly. Main course of crumbed pork fillet was good but baked fish came with roast vegetable which was mainly slices of pepper. Ordered cheesecake but waitress possibly misunderstood as was served with a strong cheesey liquid in a glass. Other desert was 3 tiny cakes with custard ice cream. Disappointing end to the meal
