Hotel, Gasthaus & Restaurant zur Post
Ranked #2 of 4 Hotels in Klotten
Reviewed August 29, 2012

4 of us stayed here in 2011 (sorry for the late review). We arrived very tired and sweaty to be greeted by the owner Klaus with a tray of cold complimentary beers which were very much appreciated. The hotel has secure covered parking for bikes with loads of tools in case you need to do any running repairs, again all free of charge. Klaus was a pleasure, he has a very English sense of humour and will happily point out the best rides as he is also a biker.
The hotel is situated right in front of a train station (didn't see that on the website) but I don't recall having any trouble sleeping after a few beers. Food is outstanding, the fruit salad in the morning really wakes you up though there's lots of choice if that's not your cup of tea. Overall we had a great time, the hotel is situated a taxi ride away from the much busier Cochem, costs about 10 euros for a taxi home and can jump on a train outside the hotel on the way there if going for a beer or two. Klotten itself is a nice little village with a couple of bars if you want a quieter evening.

We stayed for 3 nights and booked half board. The room was okay, located at the top of the hotel. Overlooking the railway directly outside the hotel with automatic barrier. Do not let this put you off. It was well glazed and noise was minimal. The food excellent. The owner Klaus was very good at explaining the meals during the evening in English. Breakfast was a good selection including eggs. A welcome drink on arrival was pleasant (free). As a location to visit and tour the Mosel valley do not overlook this hotel for convenience. The river Mosel is only a three minute walk. The parking for motorcycles in excellent. Smoking on the Patio may be unpleasant for some. Klotton the village is quaint.

Room Tip: Some rooms at front overlooking the Mosel river at a little distance.

We were on a bicycle/wine tour of the Mosel and stayed at this hotel. Our room was small but clean and comfortable. Claus, the owner was very friendly and kind. The food was AMAZING! Lots of smoking motorbikers, however, made it so we couldn't enjoy the patio and often even the dining room was quite smoky. But, Claus' kindness and the beautiful little town to explore made it all worthwhile. It is right across from the Klotten train station, and at the foot of the massive hill that Klotten rests on, so easy access for cyclists, and very easy to find.

Room Tip: Up high and away from the train station for a quieter sleep.

We were touring on a motorbike and stayed here for one night on the basis it is advertised as part of a biker touring network.

We hd a river view but note that this also has a main train line so you will get noise at all times.

We stayed half board and the cooking was excellent. The only slight dining downside is before we could leave the table we had to get the check in card from our room so the couple of drinks we had could be recorded. OK I appreciate such a system may be required for a big group, but a couple having a beer and a wine?

The WIFI was far too slow.

Otherwise a great location with an owner who loves bikes.

Room Tip: River view rooms also have the train line.

I and 3 friends were attending a motorcycle rally near Frankfurt, after which we wished to find a touring base on the Mosel. We had read previous reviews both on trip advisor and other motorcycle tour sites, so our expectations were high. I m pleased to say they were exceeded.
The location was great, being just off the main road overlooking the river, there was a railway station nearby but the double glazing made this not a problem.
The motorcycles garage was huge with a drying room and even a pool table.
The bedrooms were clean, light and tidy as was the restaurant.
The food deserves a special mention, the owner Klauss as well as being a kean motorcyclist is also a chef and a very good one. His food was beyond excellent. The beer very very good with none of the following morning dreaded after affects. He was also very helpful in selecting touring routes.
What more could you want.
To call this a biker Hotel would not do it justice, it is a Hotel and Restaurant with very high standards and very helpful, efficient staff. The fact that it has such good facilities for motorcyclists is a huge bonus.
Highly recommended.

Our second trip to Zur Post but our first review of this excellent hotel.

First tip, book early, Klauss gets booked up way ahead of time and we can see why.

The hotel also has the next door building as well and this serves as secure bike parking, drying rooms, maps and tools etc. Cellar bar is also reached from this building.

The food is top notch at all times as is the wine, we have just returned from a five day stay and the quality was high. Klauss is a genial host with an eye for detail and looks after his guests in fine style.

The rooms are immaculate, spacious and comfortable with plasma tv if you need to watch it. The Mosel is about 100 metres away if that and is far more interesting to watch or better still travel on.

Half the rooms face a train line so choose accordingly. The windows are double glazed with the usual shutters on the outside, so the noise is kept out.. The trains did not disturb us be just be advised if you're light sleepers. The up side of this is that the station is close by with quick access to either Koblenz 20 euro for 5 folk or Cochem at 1.65 euro.

The hotel also has two outdoor terraces one at ground level and one on the first floor.

Second tip, the first floor terrace is outside the rooms facing the trainline. If you go out on the terrace and use it then no problem, if you're a hermit then think on. Late night conversations even in quiet Klotten sound loud outside your window.

The free wifi is a good facility if you need to keep in touch back home or plan extended days out.

Which reminds me, as Klauss is also a biker he may well take a ride out with you if asked. His knowledge of the local twistys and watering holes is second to none.

The staff are multi lingual so don't be put off if you don't speak German.

Take a look at our travel map, we joined TA late in life and only review the places we have been to since joining. You may wish to trust our judgment on this quality biker hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms on the north side are quieter.

Next time we're in the area we want to stay at this hotel. We stopped in at the restaurant on our bike trip down the Mosel. The freiderweiser and zwiebelkuchen were top notch, the prices reasonable, and the staff so kind and friendly. The proprietor is an artist whose work in lovely and displayed throughout.
