Beautifully cooked food and really pleasant service. This restaurant deserves a lot more customers. If you go to
Santa Cruz please try the Boca de Panela, its near the
harbour not in the town centre

“Fantastic find”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

Superb restaurant at the end of the Promenade next to the harbour, overlooking the sea. We found it on our last evening and wished we'd found it earlier. We had the most delicious tuna steaks I have ever tasted, caught the day before and cooked to perfection. The service was first-class. We were able to discuss items on the menu with the proprietor before making our choice and the excellent white wine was opened with a flourish and placed in an ice bucket by the table. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the lovely staff. I can thoroughly recommend the place.

“Bit of a strange visit, would probably be better in normal circumstances!”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

On a recommendation from our reception, we visited this restaurant.
The service was good and the waitress (owner?) spoke good English so we didn't have to attempt our 'dodgy' Portugese!

The food was not bad, quite heavy on the garlic for our tastes although I'm told this is typical of the native dishes.
House wine was medium sweet and very drinkable and pleasant.

What put a bit of an odd slant to the evening was that half way through, about 50 people descended on the restaurant and a gentleman appeared with a lectern and started making a very prolonged and loud speech with cheering from the crowd.

We subsequently learned that this was the next presedential candidate for Madeira giving a speech to his party, but to be honest, whilst this might have been considered an honour, we were a little annoyed that we hadn't been warned about this by the owner before we sat down and ordered food.
In hindsight I would have chosen to go somewhere else as it rather spoilt the atmosphere which had been pleasant up until that point.

On a normal evening I suspect this would be perfectly fine and dinner on the balcony makes for a nice romantic location.

“Hits the Spot!”
Reviewed December 28, 2011

What a great find, tried it on the Thursday before Christmas, food was first class, fish and beans for two, enough for 4 and super tasty, so good in fact we booked for Christmas lunch and sat down to a veritable feast of a buffet.
Must mention Sylvia who took extremely good care of us, we wanted for nothing and would return to Madeira just to eat here again.
