My company booked this hotel for me during the first of my trips to the area. It is located in the Black Forest region of Germany. Coming from Chicago, it is a most picturesque view all around. The hotel was built in 1491 (before Columbus came over). The warmth and hospitality of Rose and Ulrich the owner couple is amazing. Ulrich is the master chef and I had meals during my 1 week stay that were far superior to any I can easily remember; I have traveled the world since 1983. His Steak, Escargot, Soups etc. are phenomenal. I love dark beer (healthier I'm told), and the hotel is the only place in the entire region where you can find Veldensteiner Lager on tap. The valley in which it is located is beautiful, green and healthy. The hotel is the best choice imaginable. Great for business, family, vacation or just a layover during a trip. Rose speaks several languages. She would switch to the language of each guest, welcome them, explain the menu, the area and the hotel. She makes you feel at home immediately. About the price, I do not want to reveal the amount; they probably have the rates on their website, but the cost of my 1 week stay including meals (and Veldensteiners of course) was ridiculously affordable. Mondays are their off days at the restaurant I believe. This is a great great place to stay.

We are so happy we chose this Gasthof for our stay in the Black Forest! Not only is Schiltach a charming town but this hotel truly exceeded our expectations in every way. The hosts were welcoming and helpful, the room was spacious, and the food top notch. The hotel and room were both very clean and we loved the décor both inside and out! Not to mention, the beds are so comfortable it's like sleeping on a cloud! The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the town center down historic cobblestone streets with the timber houses lining the streets. Each morning we had a breakfast buffet which consisted of fruits, bread and jam, sliced meats, cheeses, hard boiled eggs and a selection of beverages. Everything was fresh and tasty and a great way to start the day.

One night we had dinner which was a fantastic choice. Even if you aren't staying here, make sure to eat at the restaurant! We spent a good 3 hours in the dining area enjoying the ambiance and our traditional German meal, savoring every bite. We then decided to have the dessert special which was home made ice cream with cherries and schnapps. That was a dessert we will always remember!

Overall, the best B&B in our two week trip to Europe and we would gladly return if given the chance. Thank you again for a wonderful time and experience!

We booked by email, all very straightforward. When we arrived at Schiltach we were able to park adjacent to the Guesthouse as all was very quiet in early May but I wonder if parking may be more difficult as the season gets going. The owners had warned us that unfortunately their restaurant was closed on the two nights we were staying, Sunday and Monday, and so the door was locked when we arrived on Sunday night, we rang the bell and were greeted by Rosa in full traditional costume. I don't know if it was for our benefit or if it was because it was Sunday but it made a great start to our stay there. We had a lovely room, fully equiped including a very impressive shower made by the company that has a base in Schiltach. Rosa told us that they have a museum where you can try out the showers if you go suitably dressed, we passed on this as it wasn't really why we had gone to the Black Forest but I wonder if we should have visited as it would have made a good story back home. You may have been to a Turkish steam room but we've been to a German shower museum etc. She also sorted out our Konus passes, an amazingly good deal for tourists which got us free public transport, and leant us timetables. We went to Freiburg and Gengenbach on the train. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful, we blotted our copybooks by passing on the boiled eggs, apparantly its a tradition to start the day on boiled eggs, but enjoyed the meat and cheese selections.
Highly recommended.

Having been visiting this Gasthof for more than 10 years the standard has always been excellent. The food and the accommodation are to the highest standard possible and the personal attention given by Frau Wolber makes one feel most welcome. Herr Wolber looks after the cooking and deserves a Michelin star!
Schiltach itself is well worthwhile spending time exploring. For those who are Bikers they will have sometihng in common with Herr Wolber who is also a Biker and usually has room in his large garage for several Bikes. There is no difficulty in finding great Biking roads in the Black forest but there ready made routes suggested in the Information pack in the rooms.

My husband and I stayed at this B&B during a recent trip through the Black Forest. The people who own the B&B are the most amazing friendly people we came across during a 6 week trip through Europe. The night we arrived we were tired from travelling and so decided to have dinner at the restaurant downstairs in the B&B. We're so glad that we did! The food was the best we tasted anywhere in Germany. Although we were quite full after our main meals we couldn't pass up the opportunity to have dessert. We were not disappointed! We would highly recommend this B&B and restaurant.

First, we did not stay at this Gasthaus. We had made reservations at another place in Schiltach, but wanted to try a different place to eat. It was SO worth it--the best food we had in our week in the Black Forest. The service was impeccable and the woman who owns the Gasthaus speaks excellent English, so she helped translate the lengthy menu.

She made us feel so welcome that we wished we had opted to stay with them initially!

The salad bar is included in most meals, a very nice change from most places to eat.

The decor is very interesting, lots of antiques and the interior is spotless.

My Dunklebierbraten was superb!!!

We loved this place. A traditional inn, family run for about 400 years and buried in the Black Forest.
The owner-chef and his wife were very welcoming and helpful. The rooms were all very clean, quiet and everything worked.
The food was all produced in house, really good Black Forest fayre with plenty of choice, excellent specialties and home made goodies like pickles etc. Breakfast was terrific – typically Black Forest – you don’t leave hungry!
The owner is also a biker (when he gets the chance), so a great stop off if you are on two wheels as well.
The inn is located near the Grohe HQ in Schiltach and the museum is really worth a visit.

Room Tip: Choose a larger room - worth the extra.
