We stayed at the Hotel for 3 nights over Easter and had an amazing time. The owners were so friendly and helpful, and speak very good English, which seems to be true of most of Germany. Our room was extremely clean, and the bathroom has brand new and modern fittings, the shower in particular was lovely. We stayed in Room 4, which even while facing the road, was very quiet. We couldn't hear a thing from other rooms or outside.

We ended up having dinner at the Hotel on all three nights we were there. The food was fantastic! I can highly recommend the Weiner Schnitzel, the Pork Kebab and all the soups! All the food was so delicious, we definitely gained a few kg's while staying there.

Schiltach is one of the prettiest villages I have ever been to and definitely our favourite in the Black Forest. We used the Konus card provided by the hotel which gave us free travel throughout the Black Forest, and while it is a bit further to travel, the trains are so easy to use and it's worth it since it feels like you're really secluded, but still super close!

I can highly recommend this Hotel and the town of Schiltach, and would love to come back and visit again. My partner and I literally sat down and tried to think of something negative about the Hotel, but we couldn't think of anything!

Room Tip: Room 4 was lovely and quiet

The 2 reviews below have said it all, this is a real gem in the Black Forest. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced, the owners went out of their way to make our stay such a pleasant experience. We looked into some of the other premises mentioned and were very glad we had booked Hotel Roessle.
Our only complaint was the weather, it rained for 6 of the 7 days we were there but this is not the norm for July.

We stayed at Gasthof zum Weyßen Rößle in October 2010 whilst visiting friends in nearby Hausach. The hotel was built in the 17th century and is a stunning building. We have our own B&B in Normandy, France and so tend to be very picky when staying anywhere else but there was nothing to be picky about here.

We stayed for 4 nights, 3 in the traditional 4 poster room and one in an extremely large and comfortable but more contemporary room. The move was down to me requiring an easy-access shower and not to the owners, as they already had previous bookings and I could only have 3 nights in the 4 poster room or 4 nights in the other room. Both rooms were equally comfortable and incredibly clean.

The only slight downside to the hotel is that it is bang opposite the Hans Grohe HQ so not as picture postcard perfect when looking out as it is when looking AT the hotel but all I can say is that Rose, the owner, makes up for this tenfold. She is charming, very helpful and speaks very good English. She is front of house for the restaurant and as the menu was only written in German she was very helpful in explaining all the dishes. She also dresses in traditional costume in the evenings to serve your meal and one part of the very quaint restaurant also houses many photos and artefacts of the Swabische culture and is extremely interesting.

We were looking forward to breakfast as we had heard that German breakfasts are vast and we weren't disappointed. There was a fantastic array of cereals, fresh fruit, several cold meats, cheese, a selection of breads, one of which was to die for! and freshly boiled eggs - a great start to the day.

If (or when) we return to the Black Forest we would most definitely stay with Rose and Ulrich again. As the previous reviewer has said, we too visited the other hotel in Schiltach which has more publicity, for somethingto eat one evening, and were so glad that we had booked to stay at Gasthof zum Weyßen Rößle instead. We definitely made the right choice!!!!!

We had originally booked to stay at another hotel in Schiltach because of the great reviews it had on TripAdvisor. However when we checked in we were, to say the least, very disappointed with our room. It was obviously one that had not been renovated being plain and characterless with tired furniture. It had a tiny shower room which was made worse by having a dark suite and dark tiled walls. As it was late we spent our first night there, but checked out next day and set off to find another hotel.

We didn't have to look far because in Schiltach we found the Gasthof zum Weyßen Rößle. This was everything the previous hotel hadn't been. Our room was bright with traditional painted "Black Forest" furniture including a four poster bed. The bathroom was of a decent size and very modern with contemporary suite including an amazing multi-function shower. These were all by Hans Grohe and could have had something to do with the hotel being opposite the Grohe headquarters! We were made very welcome by the owners, the Wolbers, and knew at once we had discovered the perfect base in the picture postcard village of Schiltach and the Black Forest in general.

The hotel had a very atmospheric restaurant where we ate two evening meals. Unfortunately, because the Wolbers run the restaurant between the two of them, it was only open limited hours. This meant only hotel guests ate there on the nights we did and it could have done with a few more diners and buzz. It's a pity, because Ulrich's food was very good indeed as was the wonderful black beer. Breakfast was a traditional spread which was the perfect start to each day and a match for any other breakfast we had on our trip.

Other than the restaurant's limited hours there was little to fault here. The hotel was clean, traditional, but with all necessary modern amenities, and very welcoming. We were issued with a Konus Card which is given out by all Black Forest hotels and gives free travel on local trains which we made use of when going on linear walks and on trips to Triberg and Freudenstadt. Schiltach itself is a very pretty town of timbered buildings with good amenities and shops. We particularly enjoyed the Konditorei-Cafe Bachbeck. Their Black Forest Gateaux was better than any we tasted, including the supposed "original recipe" one in Triberg.

I can thoroughly recommend a stay in Schiltach and, despite reviews of a rival on TA, think the Weyßen Rößle is the best place to stay in town, especially as our wonderful four poster room cost less than the plain, tired one we'd had at the other place!

Room Tip: The four poster room is a delight
