Landgasthof Hirschen Birndorf
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Albbruck
Reviewed March 4, 2012

The „Hirschen“ Albbrucktal can easier be found under the locality Birndorf. Take the road from Waldshut along the river Rhein in the direction of Basel, at the height of the Shell fuel station turn to the right and follow the road that leads after about 4 miles, directly to the hotel.
The „Landgasthof Hirschen“ is a typical German country inn that offers newly renovated cozy guest rooms. The rooms are modestly furnished but comfortable. The bathroom is equipped with at shower cabin. Everything is clean and polished like in most German hotels. The entire family is looking wholehearted after the wellbeing of the guests. The Senior Chef likes to go around the restaurant, checks that everyone is satisfied and likes to have a chat with his clients.
Traditional food to affordable prices is served. The house specialty the Bratwurst was delicious. Game, deer from the Black forest is available. The only complaint we had that there was no fish on the menu. The Junior Chef informed us that he will include a trout from the Black forest in the next menu.
The breakfast was complete with a selection of local products. Eggs and fried bacon is available on demand.
The hotel offers free parking and free Wifi internet connection from the rooms.
The “Langasthof Hirschen“ is a hotel where guest feel at ease.

We booked two rooms in the Bett and Brand package, which includes the room, a four course meal, a tour of the in-house distillery (with great samples!), and a sumptuous breakfast buffet. We were welcomed most warmly on our arrival. The rooms were modern, newly renovated and clean. The building was built in the 14th century, and it has been run by the same family as a hostelry since 1866. The age of the building can be seen with the open beams, but all luxury mod cons have been built in.

The dinner was excellent, extremely tasty and served piping hot (except of course the salad). The tour of the distillery was rounded off by the proprietor playing a local horn and giving a rendition of a local poem. All very tastefully done.

One problem was that the bathroom light and extractor fan go on automatically when one enters the bathroom. This is inconvenient at night, when one would rather not put on the light, and the fan continues for about 30 minutes, which can be bothersome. I understand that the proprietor is looking to rectify this matter.

Room Tip: Book the Bett und Brand package through the hotel.

We were attending a famliy wedding over the border in Switzerland but decided to stay here. What a good choice it was. The family running this hotel couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Our poor German was no problem as the proprietor spoke English. The room we had was very comfortable and spotlessly clean with a superb modern bathroom complete with a lit showerhead that changed colour as the water flowed. The food was so tasty and was mostly prepared by the family . The sausages, soups sauces and bread were all made on site. The restaurant and household staff were all very competent and friendly. A translated English menu was offered which was extremely helpful.
This is obviously a popular venue for locals who flock here to eat. Even when the restaurant is full to overflowing, the food is exceptional and the service excellent. The village is very pleasantly situated and within 5 minutes you are able to walk in the countryside. This is an excellent base for the southern Black Forest. Our stay, 4 nights, was all too short. We will definitely return.
