Hotel was wonderful but the 10% extra on everything took the shine off a lovely 4 days. Service in the Boat house was pretty poor and definately not 5*.

Our second visit as we had enjoyed our visit there so much last year. Our meal in the Cameron Grill was lovely and although the service was a bit rushed to start it was more relaxed by the end of the meal. There were problems with the wine list and the availability of certain wines. Wish they would redo the decor in this restaurant the industrial type roof clashes with the mural and framed kilts and give it a bit of a canteen atmosphere. Breakfast was very good.
Service in the Great Scots bar was very slow and the manager who eventually took our order handed it on to someone else. We ended up with a different beer than the one we ordered and waiting 15 minutes for a drink in what was a quiet bar. All other staff were great.
However, there seem to be quite a lot of maintenance issues this time. The lift was out of order. In our room at least 2 light bulbs had gone, the hand shower was badly leaking and the table had a dodgy leg.
We had a good time but Cameron house is expensive and they really need to make sure that maintenance is being checked on regularly.

Spent a short break in Cameron House with my husband and 13 month old baby. We were a bit concerned about how we would cope with our son but we need not have worried. The staff were fantastic and really made our stay both comfortable and relaxing. We dined at several of the restaurants in the hotel and all happily accommodated our little one.

We booked our son in to the creche one afternoon and spent a fantastic few hours at the Spa enjoying some pampering. I have enjoyed staying in many 5 star resorts but I believe that the Spa facility is definitely one of Cameron House's crowing jewels, in addition to the breathtaking views of the loch and the mountains.

All in all, we had a wonderful holiday. The facilities were excellent, staff were very friendly and the food was sublime. We have already booked for our Christmas vacation :-)

Recently stayed at Cameron House and were somewhat worried by negative comments.

First of all the location is excellent and we were allocated a Junior Suite on the 2nd Floor overlooking the Loch. The greeting and overall service provided by Rachel the Receptionist was excellent. The room was everything we could have wished for.

We had previously booked dinner in the Cameron Grill as it was my husband's birthday, we were greeted there with a Happy Birthday and shown to our table. Initially our waiter was very pleasant and keen to provide a good service. However, the wine list is currently being updated and after letting us choose a wine, going to have a chat with the Manager, came back with a list on a piece of paper of wines that they actually had. It is not such a big deal but why not be upfront about it and I think customers would be a lot happier. The food was excellent although service did tail off a little as the restaurant got busier.

We ordered breakfast in our room for the following morning and this did arrive late with no apology, however was well presented and did consist of exactly what we had ordered.

Overall we had a a great stay and although the niggles are minor, when you are paying for a 5 star service that is what you expect

For a treat every now and again you'd be hard pressed to beat this place. Large hotels can be a bit over powering and impersonal but ALL the staff we came in contact with in this hotel greeted you with a smile and were very friendly. Set in a stunning location, the Whisky Bar and Cameron Grill were equally top notch and the meal we had in the Cameron Grill was the best we'd had for some time - with an excellent a la carte menu for my vegetarian wife. Although having to check out by 11am we were free to use all the facilities until 6pm and we took full advantage of the leisure pool etc. My only comment on the room would be that the decor made it very dark ( a friend who stayed the previous week thought the same) and the close proximity of the next room's TV to our bed meant that I was was woken at 4am when the drunk next door couldn't control his TV volume - he ho!

I recently had three nights at Cameron House, with my husband, to celebrate my 40th birthday. The location was easy to find and the reception staff (Sarah) very helpful when checking-in. When Sarah asked how I intended to spend my birthday, I informed her that a lazy spa day was in order and a treatment was booked at the Carrick Spa. However, the wind was knocked out of my sails when Sarah explained that the Spa is actually not at Cameron House, but 3km away! Although there is a concierge shuttle service available door-to-door, my treatment was a stand-alone thing that I would have to leave the hotel for and not have a full day’s access to the spa as I had expected. Instead, my husband and I had to book an accompanying ‘spa experience’ at £35 each giving us two hours use of the facilities. Please do not be fooled by the repeated phrase of ‘The Carrick Spa at Cameron House’.
Our room was a double on the first floor with a view of the loch and overall was very pleasant (No61). However, the main overriding issue was that of noise. The volume of the television from next door (No59) was unacceptable, resulting in my having to contact the concierge at ten past midnight to complain. The concierge promptly responded and the TV switched off. Neighbouring television could be heard throughout the course of the day, perhaps not assisted by the pre-set loud volume when turning the TV on. There was also a connecting door to number 59 which may or may not have been a contributory factor. The other aspect of noise came from extremely creaky floorboards – out in the corridor, in our room, and most definitely from the room above us – not ideal when intending a three night relaxing stay at 5 star De Vere hotel.
We ate breakfast twice in the Cameron Grill and once at The Boathouse. We found both to be very good, though it seemed obvious that residents chose not to walk the 5 minutes to The Boathouse as it was extremely quite which was a shame as it is a lovely location. On our first evening we ate in The Boathouse and would highly recommend the bucket of shrimps – a very relaxed, pleasant environment. The second night, my birthday, we ate at Martin Wishart which cannot be faulted in any way. The experience is highly recommended – polite, friendly, attentive staff moving around the room with extreme subtlety; relaxed environment; and exquisite food. Our final meal was in the Cameron Grill – again good food if not with service a little too speedy as if our table was required for a second sitting. All evening meals had been booked in advance (although The Grill did not have our reservation), which is recommended as there was a golfing event on and the hotel very busy.
Although there are a number of negative points raised here we did have an enjoyable time. The points noted are our disappointment in what was expected to be an exceptional three night stay. For us, to stay at Cameron House requires savings and not something we can do at a drop of a hat. It had been recommended by a colleague, planned in advance and anticipated with excitement only to be somewhat dampened by small but significant issues (foolishly we had not perused TripAdvisor and had been seduced by a well-presented website). On a brighter note, the location was lovely with every-changing views across the loch. A walk around the grounds, picking conkers, brought us laughter and some marvellous views and photographs. The concierge was very helpful, providing information for a walk in the hills. All staff were polite and friendly (and Scottish – perhaps purposefully to enhance the location and experience). The gym was well equipped with a nice pool facility. The Great Scots bar nice for a drink (if not a little expensive).
If the not so good parts were addressed to meet the standard of the good parts then this indeed could fulfil its claim to be De Vere’s flagship hotel.

Amazingly friendly service for such a large hotel. Pool area great, lots to do incuding giant chess in grounds! Lovely, spacious room with good facilities. Restaurant one of the best I've eaten in for a long time, both dinner & breakfast. Take a ride on a seaplane or walk down to the boathouse, really peaceful and relaxing.
