We stayed at Cameron House for one night last weekend.
The location is without doubt stunning with views over Loch Lomond and beautifully kept gardens.
We arrived at 3.15pm as I had been told that check was at 3 - the receptionist was extremely off hand and seemed a little flustered although the desk was not very busy. She told us that our room was not ready but if we gave her a telephone number she would call us when it was. I mentioned that I had been told that the room would be ready at 3 - and she informed me that I would have been told the rooms would be ready FROM 3 and that she could not be more specific. We had to ask her what we should do with our luggage, she asked where our bags were and told us to leave them there and that she would take care of them.
I would have expected a 5 star hotel to offer some refreshments in the bar or at the very least a coffee while we waited but I'm afraid she seemed completely disinterested.

We had a walk in the gardens, watched a bride having her photo taken, and then had a drink in the bar -great - we were then called at 4.20pm to say that our room was now ready.
When we got there there was no luggage so I called reception - the girl asked me to describe the luggage and then she said 'I wondered who that belonged to'!!!.

On to the positive - the room was lovely although we looked over a flat roof - they have placed potted plants there to make it more attractive. The bed is soooo comfortable it made it very difficult to get out of it for breakfast. The only downside is - no mini-bar, although there was a small bottle of red wine and there was a slight smell of damp in near the bathroom sink.

We ate in the Martin Wishart restaurant and I cant recommend it highly enough - staff and food were faultless.

The breakfast room was full so we were directed to a bar (I have forgotten the name of the bar) where there was a full choice of hot and cold breakfasts.

Overall we had a great stay at Cameron House and would definately return - I think that a little training for their staff is required because afterall I think people visit hotels like Cameron House to experience a little luxury.

We stayed for just one night in Cameron House and loved it.
OK its expensive but it was a treat after spending two awful nights elsewhere in Scotland. We decided to treat ourselves on our last night in Scotland and boy is Cameron House a treat. We ate in the Cameron Grill - fabulous steaks and great service. The next morning we had breakfast in the Boat House. This is a recently opened resaurtant and bar on the lake shore. Really tastly breakfast!
I would reccommend Cameron House to a friend

Cameron House is everything you would want as a relaxing getaway in a lovely location.
The hotel is beautiful - our room was spacious but still felt cozy and was really nicely decorated, with a massive, comfy bed! The public areas are all very well-maintained and the restaurants and Great Scots Bar are all absolutely stunning. We ate in the Boathouse restaurant for dinner and while it was on the expensive side, the place was so charming that it was worth it (& pricey food is to be expected in a 5 star hotel!)
All of the staff that we met were really helpful and pleasant with no hint of any snobbery. The service was fantastic - attentive without being at all instrusive.
The hotel is ideally located for walks to Lomand Shores and Balloch country park, both of which were lovely and there are a few pubs and restaurants in Balloch if you don't want to always eat at the hotel.
We absolutely loved our stay and cannot fault the place. It is a great place to go for a treat and we hope to return soon!

Website very misleading giving impression that the Spa (called the Carrick) is on the same site as the main hotel whereas it is actually 2 miles up the road. Decor of hotel corridors and our room very dark and gloomy. Bath water tepid. Shower controls rather hit and miss and no instructions available on how to use them. Only one small bar of soap supplied. Very long walk from Reception to room and from room to restaurants & the leisure centre (which was not mentioned on the website which is a pity because its facilities are excellent). Long queues for breakfast on 2 out of 3 mornings and service of cooked items not very reliable. Breakfast was also available at the Boathouse restaurant misleadingly described as 2 minutes away - it would have taken a good 15 minutes to walk there. At about 5 pm on day 2 we requested dinner reservation for 7.30 but no table available until 9.00 pm so we decided on room service but found no menu in the room. Reception promised to send one up but nothing after 45 minutes so had to go all the way back there to get one. The receptionist had to print one out but when we ordered from it it turned out to be out of date! The meal was OK and room service polite and helpful but wine overpriced.
