We have just returned from Cameron house in the beautiful part of Scotland Loch Lomond, our first impression was not good because my wife and I along with our son and daughter in law and our two grandchildren arrived at the front door to be ignored by two of the concierge standing in the doorway in deep conversation just stepping aside to allow us past with our luggage, We reached the reception area and welcomed by a young man I believe to be called Owen who checked us in and helped us to our suites, the rooms were situated in the new part of the building but were beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. the children had been excited because of the leisure club. which was our first stop.
After a couple of hours swimming and enjoying the company of my grandchildren, we headed to change for dinner, and then with all the family headed for the grill room where we were welcomed by the hotel butler who joked with the children asking if they were married. this lifted their spirits very much and they laughed about it the rest of the evening, Sean our waiter was very attentive and polite as was George when he visited our table to make sure all was well, My wife pointed out that it was very professional for a butler to be on hand and I will say he was a very polite gentleman who throughout our stay remembered all our names including my grandchildren Sarah and Fraser and was even there at reception to say goodbye and present the children with some colouring books for the long journey home, (what a lovely touch) he gave us his card and we will book for early next year with we hope the service of George.
Thank you to all the staff of Cameron house who was part of making our visit to Scotland worth while.

Thank you very much for submitting your review of Cameron. We are glad you enjoyed your visit to Scotland with your grand children, and also that our Butler George was able to help make this a special experience for you. Thank you also for praising Sean’s attentiveness, who is a tremendous credit to our Cameron Grill restaurant.
We do apologise that you were not given the warm welcome to Cameron we like to offer all our guests, and hope this did not blemish the rest of your stay with us.
And hope that you will return in the near future…,

Kind Regards,
Shona Brierton

Spent two nights at Cameron House on the bank holiday weekend in August. Driving through the gates, the approach is truly breathtaking with the loch on one side and the majestic hotel looming on the other. The setting is truly specatacular!

We arrived about 4 pm to find chaos at check-in, which didn't appear to happen fast enough and there were lots of guests milling around with their luggage waiting to be served.Once we finally got our room key, we couldn't wait to put our bags down and unwind with a shower in our 'loch view' room having driven a considerable distance to spend a weekend at this lovely hotel. Well, considering it was now approaching 4.30pm, our room was not ready yet! We went upstairs to find the bed was unmade and the room was only just being cleared out. This I found really unacceptable, given the price of the accommodation and the fact that check-out is at 11am! The room, once ready, and in fact the whole hotel is really beautifully decorated and furnished. Dark, muted, tones with tasteful touches of tartan and low lighting give it a very classy quality. However, our view of the loch from our room was not an uninterrupted one as our room overlooked the car park/drive at the entrance.

In summary:

The good:
- Beautiful decor and very scenic location
- Room was very comfortable and nice shower in the bathroom
- Breakfast is fantastic, self-serve but very good choice of cooked items
- Good choice of dining and leisure facilities

The bad:
- While the bar is a fantastic place to hang out, forget about the service! It took us 20 minutes - yes 20! - to get anyone's attention and we were told to be seated and would be served. So we did, distracted by watching the seaplane take off and land on the loch, until we realised we had STILL not got served. Prices are steep, which is expected, but with those price tags you definitely expect better service.
- Dined at the Cameron Grill and food was fine, except our steaks ordered rare and medium-rare were cooked medium and well done respectively! By this time, we were too hungry and fed up of our experience at the bar to complain or return our meal. Side dishes were very good though.
- requested newspapers in the morning while checking-in; no newspaper was delivered on both mornings we were there
- Had to wait absolute ages - seriously, up to half an hour - to have our car brought round by the valet, despite having requested it well before the required time

All in all, would we stay here again? We probably would only if service ever improved but we spent a lot of money on accommodation and dining at Cameron House, and felt quite cheated because of the lack of care and attention, so definitely won't be rushing back. A real shame.

Room Tip: Request a Loch View room but make sure it's not one that overlooks the front entrance

Many Thanks for you review. We do appreciate you praising our décor, rooms, and breakfast. However, are very sorry that certain elements of service let your experience down overall, and there is no excuse for the standard of service received in our Cameron Grill, Great Scots Bar, and from the valet parking with your car. We do hope you return, and please be assured that all your comments have been taken on board in order for us to improve the standards of service delivered,

Kind Regards,

Stayed for two nights in September in a party of 10
Good bits:
- location - absolutely beautiful
- hotel building and decor - Scottish baronial - dark & broody which matched the terrible weather
- front of house staff were great
- room - clean, comfortable with good wet room, lovely monsoon shower with a good head of hot water
- food - we ate in the Grill and the Boathouse and the food was excellent. Service in the Boathouse was good and appears much more organised than in the hotel.
- boat trip on the loch was great - Scott the captain was most informative.
- leisure centre -especially the swimming pool altho it was a shame that the slide was out of action due to a fault.

Bad bits:
- service in the Great Scots Bar was very slow (even when half empty). Had booked Afternoon Tea and were served one pot each of tea & coffee for ten of us plus one small jug of milk. The sandwiches and cakes about half an hour later.
-Breakfast service in the Grill on Sunday was similar to the Bar - waiter had two or three attempts to do anything (same problems about having to ask for more tea, coffee, milk, butter (one pat for 10), toast (8 half slices).

This could be a magical place - it is such a shame that the management allow poor service (is it lack of training) to spoil some of the experience.

Thank you for your review. We really appreciate you taking the time to praise our interior, bedrooms, Cameron Grill and Boathouse Restaurants. Thank you especially for your kind feedback of Scott who has great knowledge of the Loch and islands, and is a terrific ambassador for our resort.
Please accept our apologies for the poor afternoon tea and breakfast you experienced, this is not an acceptable level of service, and certainly not of the standard we strive to deliver.
We do hope you return, and enjoy a perfect stay,

Kind Regards,

We booked 3 rooms for ourselves and 4 friends on our wedding night in August. The location and hotel itself were stunning, (although the lift was out of order), but we found a lack of communication between the members of staff. I had phoned several times prior to our stay to ensue all arrangements were in place but when we arrived with our photographer the reception staff were oblivious to the phonecall I had made to the hotel's wedding co-ordinator to arrange to have some photographs taken in the hotel and on the grounds, and we were then left to find our own way about to find the best places to take a photograph.
I had booked a table for six that evening at 7.30pm in the Boathouse several months before, (stating clearly that it was for a wedding party), and was shocked to find that no table had indeed been booked, an we were left in the lounge to wonder if we would get a meal.
We finally got a table and began our dinner after 9pm, bearing in mind this had been a very long day and we were all starving! We ordered drinks and the waitress brought a ginger beer instead of a bottle of Sol lager for one of our party. We pointed this out and she came back eventually with a salt cellar! Having pointed out the second mistake we did eventually get the right order. No condiments were brought to the table as well and we had to fetch our own from another table.
After the meal we went to settle the bill, (we had purchased dinner with the rooms so a certain amount of the cost was covered by that), and were astounded to be told that the bill was over £150 more than we had expected. We queried this and they eventually told us that it should have been around £14.
And to top it all off the next morning when we were checking out we were presented with a service charge which they had, of course, been worked out as a percentage of the original, incorrect bill.
Some members of staff were very polite and in the bar they agreed to play a CD given to them by my bridesmaid for our first dance but we felt let down by the standard of service overall, especially considering the significant price they are charging guests.
On what was a big day for us they caused stress where there should not have been any, particularly because I had corresponded with them numerous times before the day, so I would have thought they would realise the importance of the relatively few things we asked of them.

We stayed here to kick start our honeymoon earlier in the month. The breakfast was excellent. The food in the Cameron Grill was good but not 5 star. If we return we'll probably try the martin Wishart restaurant. We booked the restaurant over hte phone twice as it was a DBB package and when we arrived no booking had been recorded. The guy who took our booking clearly couldn't care less.
Great Scots bar is nice but if stuck with a bunch of annoying patrons bring ear plugs. It seems that there are no rules for celebrities or extremely wealthy people. Check in and check out were good and being shown to the room by the receptionist was a nice touch. Garden view was not great and people were standing at our window staring in. The parking wasn't ideal. We had to drive around for a while and there was no one to direct guests. Swimming area was ok- certainly not 5 star (been to council run swimming which isn't far off the same standard) but it was clean and smelled nice. There is clearly a need for another jacuzzi- there is only one and it's always cram packed and over run with children.
If you're prepared to spend a great deal of money you will have a great stay. The hotel is definitely more 4 star than 5. Although it's one of the best hotels in Scotland and should be 5 star due to the setting etc compared with other hotels around the world it falls far short of its 5 star status. Would return if got a good deal but not worth the full price.

Room Tip: Don't go for a garden view room or a ground floor room

Back in July we stayed at the Carrick as we are timeshare owners - over the years we have seen decision after decision being made that is completely misssing the point of what your 5* customer wants! For anybody visiting here is a list of areas that are ruining what could be a great experience (reading other reviews I am not the only person with some of these views!)
1. Martin Wishart Restaurant - FANTASTIC experience! - put it up there with my visits to Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir. The experience at Le Manoir starts off with a lovely room where you sit and are served beautifully with drinks and canapes. Just like you did in the Whisky Bar before going into Matin Wishart's. So what do management do? They take the Whisky bar away and you are now directed to the Great Scotts Bar where wedding parties occupy between their reception and the evening do. They are allocated some of the bar area where children can run around, and some of the wedding guests have been drinking for a while! Sevice was dreadful, we had to ask twice to be served a drink. Well done management for completely spoiling a great experience. If you had done some research not only with your customers but also with the Mr Wishart. You would have realised what a stupid decision that was. I was quite disgusted that you did not have the courtesy to cunsult with Martin in advance- he is your only true 5* experience!
2. The Boat House - What a complete rip off! And dreadful food - who in their right mind does not indicate on a child's menu that Luxury Fish Fingers is indeed made with salmon! The quality of basic food was apalling and very expensive, they got the order wrong so we had to wait for it be cooked, the red faced sweaty looking manager (that was his last day apparently) looked no more than a glorified waiter and had no idea how to manage his staff. We were asked repeatedly by different waiters the same things they had no idea who had taken drinks. food orders etc. Our bill for 2 adults and a child. I had a starter caesar salad - just under 50% more expensive than Pizza Express! £26 for a ribeye steak and just under £14 for a bowl of pasta, not to mention all side orders of veg, salad and potatoes £3.50 each!! Our bill came to £120 for 2 adults and 1 child and that was not picking the most expensive items on the menu! I will never return there again!
As a previous reviewer commented the "extras" like the boat trip £100 and the falconry experience which used to be provided as a complementary event to residents now costs £100 for 2 adults and one child!

Thank you for your review. It is incredibly disappointing to discover that your stay was such a let down for you, and we sincerely apologise for this.

What I can I say !!! . . Absolute heaven . . .this is the friendliest hotel we have ever stayed in all over the world! And we have stayed in alot! We arrived at this stunning hotel to be welcomed by Brian the doorman, a true gent, he handed us over to Paula on reception who
could not be anymore helpful in making sure we had everything booked and informed us of the cruise on celtic warrior ( a must!! ) and the seaplane from the hotel!!! ( a fantastic experience). Brian showed us to our room which was beautiful and very comfortable, we dined in Martin Wisharts and Cameron Grill - both evenings were lovely. On our 2nd day we visited the spa at the Carrick - OMG - the massages are fantastic, the infinity pool is a stunning touch !! The only negative point is . . We could not stay longer !!! . . Cameron house we are your friends for life . . We will be back and we tell all our friends and family. Thankyou for a truly fantastic 2 days.
