“Place to snorkel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2012

This is a small resort, just 5 bungalows. It is in an excellent location right on the beach. This part of the lagoon is the best on the island for snorkeling. Breakfast, included, was cereal, toast, fresh fruit and coffee. Each bungalow has a fully equipped kitchen. The bungalows are well maintained and have daily maid service. The privacy from each bungalow is great.

Room Tip: Beach front bungalows offer the best view of the lagoon from the porch.

My husband and I came to the Cook Islands to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We had friends who had been coming to the Cook Islands for over 20yrs, and when we told them we were looking for a quiet, low key, non-commercialized place to escape and connect with each other in a beautiful tropical setting, they recommended the Cooks. We stayed in the middle beach front bungalow. The way the bungalows are set up, it feels like you are the only ones on a little island all to yourself. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the deck reading, or taking our beach loungers down to the beach and lying right on the water's edge. The days were warm and humid, but cooling off in the beautiful water was perfect. At night, we slept in comfort with AC in our room.
Tom and his staff were wonderful. Each morning, there was a fruit/cereal/toast/coffee breakfast from like 8-10am. Kayaks and snorkling gear were available for use and we loved that! Tom encouraged us to take the table/chairs down to the waters edge and watch a sunset. I am posting a picture. The sky was unbelievable, and I can't believe the picture actually captured it!
RBB is very clean and tidy. Every morning, our bungalow was cleaned and replaced with fresh towels. We were allowed use of the computer/internet during the mornings, and also the use of the washer/dryer. I loved that there were very few bugs/mosquitos, and the only little creatures were the very occasional gecko (which is why there are so few bugs! ya!)

Room Tip: Pay the extra money to be one of the three bungalows directly in front of the ocean! You get a nice...

We just returned from 2 wonderful weeks at Rarotonga. Beach Bungalows. With only 5 bungalows in the complex there is a great feeling of privacy and space. The front 3 bungalows open directly to the sandy beach with great snorkeling and leisurely kayaking. The back 2 bungalows don't have the panoramic lagoon views but do have private sunning yard and a table for two in the yard. The stroll to the beach takes all of 1 minute instead of the 30 seconds from the front bungalows. The indoor open shower facing a small tropical garden was beautiful.

All the bungalows are completely furnished with everything you need for a relaxing time and the staff could not be more helpful. We felt so welcome and didn't lack for a thing.

Rarotonga is tropical and the humidity and heat, but with an air-conditioner for the bedroom, cool sleeping temperatures were a sure thing. Sitting out in the early morning or evening we did have a few mosquitoes, but not so many as to be a problem after using a bit of bug repellant.

Every morning we had fresh towels and the bungalows were cleaned and freshened. The sand yards were raked and cleaned to remove any fallen leaves and the hermit crab tracks made during the night. Fresh local fruits for breakfast and hot coffee or tea plus delicious breads from a local bakery--what more could you want?

We had a scooter for the whole time we were there and loved it. Getting a NZ driver's license was no problem at all and the scooter driver's test was so easy. The scooter rental was included in our package (Costco.com travel arranged everything.)

Eating out was out was relatively expensive, so we ate lunch out and had snacks like local carrots with the hummus and wine that we brought with us for the evenings.

This is not a place to go for shopping spree unless you want black pearls. However, shopping was not on our agenda. We were looking for some quality time together and simple activities like snorkeling and kayaking. All in all we highly recommend the Rarotonga Beach Bungalows and hope to go again.

Room Tip: We preferred the front bungalows because of the panoramic view from the deck, however that said, the...

Perfect start to our honeymoon. Fabulous beach right out the front with good snorkeling. With only 5 other villas, you feel like you have the place to yourself. A lovely spot.

When my wife and I were looking for a honeymoon destination in 2005 we stumbled upon the Cook Islands by accident. After researching some hotels we settled on RBB, six years later and two more stays at RBB we have fallen in love with this place! All the accolades you read about this place are true, the bungalows are well appointed, great kitchen, amazing bathroom, comfortable bed. You can snorkle right off the beach and see an abundence of marine life and the view from the porch to the lagoon is intoxicating! When friends ask why we keep returning we simply tell them this place is tuly paridise! The biggest reason we continue to return is the wonderful staff Tom has assembled around him. They make you feel right at home the minute you arrive and continue that feeling untill you unfortunately have to leave. The people here have become like family to us and we are counting the days untill our return!See you soon Luckey!!

Spectacular location, just foot steps in the sand from amazing snorkeling. The five bungalow property offers privacy in your very own paradise. Bungalows are well appointed and include an outdoor private shower. The beds are firm and very comfortable. Air conditioner is located in the bedroom and the front patio doors must be closed in order for it to run. Owners and staff are very welcoming and make you feel at home. I am not a big fan of large roaches and they did seem to make it into our bungalow on a regular basis - but that is the tropics, just be forewarned. There are two dining options with in a ten minute or less walk, but I would recommend renting either a car or a scooter to further explore the island. There are three lagoon front bungalow that offer an unobstructed spectacular view. The two bungalows behind offer a partial view. Traveled over Christmas and the weather was very hot and very humid, even the local residents said it was hot for them. Lagoon water temperature was about 86-88 degrees.

Room Tip: Lagoon view rooms worth the upgrade.

This place is just as charming and comfortable as it was when we first visited 5 years ago. Views: spectacular. Facilities: spacious and beautiful. Beach: best snorkeling on the island that is accessible without a boat. Service: " Lucky " and the staff are superb. We had a little issue with our bungalow which was resolved immediately. Location: quiet side of the island. For a restful retreat in an idyllic setting, at a very reasonable cost compared to similar options, this is it! We'll be back.

Room Tip: Definitely select one of the three ocean front bungalows. They are worth the extra cost.
