We stayed at the beachfront hotel for 5 nights and enjoyed every bit of it. The lagoon views from the top floor (room 305 - deluxe studio) were spectacular. The room was neat and clean, well serviced daily and the bed was comfortable. An in room safe allows you to store your valuables and the air conditioner makes things bearable on hot days. Downstairs, snorkelling and kayaking equipment are provided so you can explore the lagoon. Most of Rarotonga's lagoon is pretty shallow (1.5m) but the area in front of the hotel has some nice but safe deeper water (3m+) if you swim out past the buoy where we were told a shy resident turtle hangs out at times. If you're hungry, the sands restaurant does pizza from 4pm daily and has a decent dinner menu. Muri beach and other cafes are also not far. The staff were helpful in organizing tours and vehicle rentals for us. As a tip: Deluxe studios are on the top floor which offer much more privacy and better views. Bottom floors step out straight onto the sand and common area. In all, it was a very pleasant experience.

The rooms are a bit small, old and tired but all overlook the beach. We were in a ground floor room which lead straight onto the beach. A really nice quite beach with excellent snorkelling. Having Island hopped and stayed in several different places we realised why people we met at this hotel were staying there for two weeks!

Room tip: all rooms face the sea

We are finishing up our stay at the villas. What a delight. Small group of 6 apartments right on the beach. Clean and quiet and love that they have two bedrooms with ensuites. Across the road from a the shop is great. Self contained with a fridge and stove top and microwave which makes it easier if you're here for a bit. A would totally recommend for families.

Room tip: All rooms are great

It's difficult to imagine the size of the Pacific Ocean but Rarotonga is almost 7 hours flight from Sydney without sight of land.
The island is truly paradise. The people so friendly. It is just the place to get away from it all. It's isolation can be frustrating if you expect things like a constant strong wifi signal. If you do then The Cook Islands are not for you. It has glorious beaches and large lagoons.
The Islands aren't modern tourist resorts thank goodness. They retain their character. The Moana Sands is very clean and comfortable but with limited accommodation and facilities by hotel standards.
If you do want to get away from it all then visit The Cook Islands and stay at the Moana Sands.

Although a little tired, this hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. We recently stayed here with our children and grandchildren and were very happy. There is a restaurant on-site which was not open during the day, which was a little disappointing as it can be difficult to navigate your way around with young babies. Eventually we hired a car which solved all our problems. Ladies behind the reception counter were informative and helpful, the gentleman not so much with mis-leading information. Overall we had a great stay and would highly recommend if travelling with your family.

Room tip: Ground floor all day !!
