Stayed for one night so to set off for the islands in the morning. Lovely room, clean and modern bathroom. Nice area outside for sitting watching the world. This is perfectly situated for the travel agents selling island packages, next to the station and also close to all the shops you might require.

Room tip: No idea, hopefully they are all ok.

We had an unexpected detour to Trang after a bad experience involving an island, a leaky tent and rain... Unfortunately Sri Trang which had been highly recommended by a fellow traveler was fully booked so they sent us across the road to Ban Ao Thong. We opted for the Penthouse room which was pretty reasonable considering what you got. Close to train, cafe's and night markets. On the top floor so really quiet barely any traffic noise and could not hear the train. Bed exceptionally comfortable with lovely bathroom. Great Air con, quiet and effective. Lovely courtyard/balcony with plastic loungers and outside table and chairs, and helpful staff also. People often pass through Trang but it is worth the stay and we would highly recommended this accommodation.

Room tip: Penthouse is worth the extra money away from noise and great deck!

We stayed 3 nights here, our room was made up every day. The staff were really friendly. We found the hotel to be a little bit of luxury on a backpacker budget! Lovely furnishing and a great bathroom, the shower was separated off from the rest, it was nice not getting the whole Bathroom wet for once. The hotel is nice a central, close the the weekend market and other daily markets. Fully recommend this hotel!

Tried to grab a room across the road at Sri Trang but they were full, so the owner suggested this place and I can see why - It is of very similar quality and price, possibly owned by the same guy or a family member. Located practically right beside the train station, it's the backpacker center of Trang with lots of Thai/western restaurants and travel agents, who can help you get to the islands. If you need to get to the bus station you can take a tuktuk there for 12 baht, look for the blue trucks to the left of the train station entrance.

The rooms were decorated nicely, very Thai. Air conditioning was placed close to the beds, (free) wi-fi signal was strong throughout, OK selection of English/French TV channels, mattresses a bit stiff but not bad and clean bathrooms. There is a small supermarket across the street. Breakfast isn't included but they offer free coffee and cake until 9am I think. As with all hotels near the train station it can be noisy from the night market, but calms down almost totally after 11 or so, personally I think it makes for a nice atmosphere.

Since Sri Trang and Ban Aothong are so similar, and easily the two best places to stay in Trang, go with whatever one is cheaper. If they're the same price, I'd give a slight advantage to Sri Trang.

Room tip: Not all rooms have windows. If you want to save 90 baht, ask for a windowless room. If you hate noise request a room at the back of the building.

I've stayed ahere a coupleof times when the Sri Trang is booked up. And it's more than pleasant. The rooms are attractive and comfortable, if a little on the small side. The decor in the public areas maybe tries to hard, but at least it tries. The staff afre reasonably pleasant, but with very limited English and eagerness to please. It's also more expensive than the Sri Trang, by about $5/night and not quite worth it.
