“Still a great place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

On our way to Spain in May, we stayed at La Truffiere. Again. Last visit was great and we hoped on a perfect four days stay. We were not disappointed. Although the weather was not great, the staff did their utmost to please us. The food was wonderfull, the atmosphere was relaxed and we had a wonderfull time. The roof was renewed, the chairs were renewed, gangways were renewed and much lighter now. So we already decided that we are going to stay there again for two weeks at the beginning of september.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back of the hotel if you are afraid that the sound of cars on the road near th...

We had booked the hotel as our first stop on a motorcycle tour to the Millau bridge in early May. It advertises it self as a "biker friendly hotel". The ride from Roscoff took longer than expected (my own fault, should stick to boring motorways instead of faffing about on biker friendly smaller ones!), so we arrived close to 9 pm instead of around 5-6 pm after a 11 hour day. Rather tired and very hungry We fully expected the restaurant to be closed, but were met by friendly Nanette who said "we've been expecting you, your dinner is ready as soon as you've freshened up". Wonderful way to be met! The dinner was good, the room good although I agree that the sound insulation to the corridor is not brilliant. Breakfast was normal continental standard, the surroundings beautiful and I could put the bike in the roomy garage.
We would definitely recommend the hotel - very nice building but above all great service|!

A bad review on this site made us a bit weary... But that was unneccesary... Clean rooms, wonderful people, great staff and wonderful meals. And the swimmingpool was really beautiful, though in this time of year a bit cold. We booked for one week, but were so lucky to make a reservation for another week. And we also made a reservation for two weeks in the year ahead of us.
Is there nothing wrong with the place? The stairs are for elderly people like us a bit too much of à challenge. But the staff knows ways around that and once inside there is an elevator. And in the front rooms you might hear the traffic of a nearby road but we got used to it in a day.
Ofcourse La Truffiere is not the equivalent of the Ritz. But hey, you are paying a different price, aren't you? So, recommended. It is a wonderful place to stay.

Let’s start with the positive news: although the hotel is located near a busy road, it is in a beautiful area and it is an excellent location to explore most of the marvelous cities and nature that this part of France has to offer.
Unfortunately, so far for the good news.
Our room was terrible: completely outdated, a total lack of daylight and uncomfortable beds decorated with mattresses containing the sweat of at least the last few thousand unlucky other visitors.
On top of that there were no night tables and they didn’t change the bed sheets even once.
The bathroom was way too cramped, the ceiling there was too low (we had to bend over in order to be able to use the shower) and the lighting was so poor I couldn’t even shave in the morning. Several times there was no warm water and we were only allowed to receive clean towels once a week unless we would pay an additional sum of money.
Also there was no television in our room, which turned out to be a life saver, considering the fact that the rooms were extremely noisy and thin-walled.
Breakfast was not much better: bread was days old and the stuff you could put on it was no haute cuisine either. Most striking, however, was the fact the we had to tidy up and clean our own breakfast table.
The hotel seems to be territory of large groups of Dutch tourists. Some of those people have been coming here already for many, many years and are on good personal terms with the Dutch owners of the hotel, sometimes even promoting this hotel on (Dutch) websites.
Based on our experience however, we would strongly advice to leave this hotel alone, since there are so many better accommodations around.

Four day stay, no hot water, very noisy road in front, starting at 5am going on till 11 pm. Also noisy from guests using their toilet next door, furniture creaky and old Food very poor quality - mostly packet mixes. Definately to be avoided.
