Campanile Troyes Sud - Bucheres
Ranked #1 of 3 Hotels in Bucheres
Reviewed September 22, 2012

We have stayed in a few Campaniles and the sleeping experience is always the same, but if you want a basic clean bed for the night then they are reasonable. However the Troyes Campanile does a much better buffet dinner than others we have tried and we really enjoy the buffet dinner so are prepared to put up with a basic sleeping experience. The location of the Troyes Campanile isn't too bad as some of them are in quite depressing trading estates. Summing up we would go there again if only for the the buffet dinner.

If you are travelling and need an overnight stop the Campanile does the job. Rooms are ordinary but the restaurant was excellent. It was a delight to relax in a pleasant atmosphere and enjoy the food and wine. The pork in rosemary sauce was great but my wife had to stop me making so many visits to the desert buffet. Set off next morning nicely refreshed.

Most important thing to note - this is NOT where your Sat Nav will probably tell you it is! We spent over an hour driving around small back streets trying to find this place, only to find it just off the main road heading into Troyes (just up from the war memorial).

As far as facilities etc go, this place is fine for a stop-off (which is exactly what we, and almost certainly most of the other guests were using it for). But, compared to something like an F1, there's just no comparison.

Rooms were dated, basic but clean and functional. Breakfast was fine, but for 2 rooms it came to something in the region of 180euros. The F1 in Reims (which served an identical purpose) came to just over 60euros.

Front of desk staff (particularly the young, Asian chap that helped us at check-in) were excellent - truly friendly, helpful and couldn't have been better.

Campaniles are a pretty well known identikit package and the only things that distinguish them are the quality of service and the state of the bldgs/rooms. On these points this one doesn't rate too high. The information from reception about the need to book for dinner (usual at a Campanile) was plain wrong. The exterior of the living quarters resembled a run down '60's holiday camp though inside the room was OK. The wi-fi was pathetic. We registered a 0.36mbps download speed and even worse upload speed. We paid €60 for the overnight room in advance and noted that the rack rate was €78 which has to be some kind of joke. No one should have to pay that sort of price in France for a room of this mediocre quality. This was the first time we've used the Troyes Campanile. Next time it's back to using one of the Reims options where most offer secure car parks, unlike here.

It is what you would expect from a place that is aimed at a quick stop over on your way somewhere else..... the room was quite good, large enough and clean on a whole (just one large cobweb in the bathroom) we had asked for a cot for our one year old but it never came but we had our own travel one with us.
Food was good, nice buffet and the mains were very good, service was quick and very polite, we did eat early though at about 7pm as it opened. I would stay again on my way south.

If you use Campanile as an overnighter (which is what they are good for) then you know what to expect. Rooms are all much the same, large enough, clean with a comfortable bed.
Lady on reception was lovely, friendly and helpful. Restaurant menu seems to be same in all Campanile, Buffet starter selection very good, and very tasty,(this one had freshly poached salmon), dessert buffet also very good. Main meal OK, nothing special, standard for Campanile.

We had a bit of trouble locating the hotel to start with but found it eventually.
The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are standard Campanile rooms - basic but clean and comfortable. How useful that you can turn the bathroom light on from inside the room in the middle of the night unlike most other hotels!
The restaurant served tasty, plentiful food of a good standard, although the buffets were getting quite depleted by the time we arrived (9.00 in the evening). The breakfast had an excellant choice of food including plenty of fruit.
Our only (small) gripe was down to the French liking for neon lighting, which was all around each building and rather lit up the room at night, even through the shutters!
I would definately use this hotel again.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing away from the other buildings if you need it to be very dark at night
