Owner description: Not all of the sites on Hadrian's Wall were heavily guarded fortresses. Corbridge was a supply base and bustling town where the Romans and civilians would pick up food and provisions. Today, you can still walk through the town's streets and experience a true time-capsule of Roman life. You can see a valuable hoard of objects found during excavations, including Roman armour and trinkets, which provide a fascinating insight into the life of a soldier.

Good site lots to see and plenty of places to sit and take it all in you also have an audio guide which gives a good commentary on whats what. The lady behind the counter was lovely she explained about the site and others in the area. First holiday in this part of the world and this lady was a great example of how friendly the people who live here are.

Whilst the Museum was really good the Roman Town was fantastic especially when we had the Audio Guide to keep us informed. This site is definitely worth a visit. My husband is the Roman enthusiast and I was prepared to be bored but not so I could have spent many more hours.

The Corbridge Roman site is a fascinating step back into history and an exciting place to explore for children and adults. You can wander along the Roman road and see the remains of granaries and water tanks; although he was unable to wander within the buildings and streets,my husband, who has problems walking was able to take his mobility scooter around the edge of the site and see a great deal. The experience is enhanced by the the excellent commentary on the hand held audio guide, which gives a lot of background information about the Romans who built and lived on the site over many generations. The museum (also accessible by mobility scooter) is not large but has a wealth of interesting artefacts found at Corbridge during the excavations. The site is a short distance from the pretty town of Corbridge , and the Church is well worth a visit. Incorporated within the church is a massive archway which was originally the entrance to the Roman fort..
