Overall we found the food to be very good and the staff were friendly, efficient and attentive. My main gripe was that certain areas of the interior were a bit worn and not clean and fresh enough for a first-class restaurant. We were the first ones in, so I was able to have a good look at everything in the daylight and I couldn't help notice that the wooden floor in the main seating area was filthy in places and in need of a good clean. Quite off putting. Surely it wouldn't take too much effort to steam clean the floor every so often! This may have contributed to the overall 'air' in the place which I found to be a bit stale given the fact we were first in. It just felt as if the windows needed opening, prior to service obviously, to allow some clean air in. Whilst the mens' toilet facilities were acceptably clean, they were nowhere near as smart and fresh as many busier establishments in Newcastle and they were a bit neglected for my liking and again below par for a top notch restaurant.
