Every time I take a vacation to my place of birth, Weissenburg, I would visit the Rockenstube at least 3-4 times in 3 weeks.
Set in a typical frankonian Village, the friendly "down-to-Earth" flair is noticed. The dining rooms are plain and simple, nothing fancy.
The menue is comprehensive, displaying the typical German meals, from Schweinebraten to Schnitzel, and Bratwurst to Sauerkraut.
Every 2 weeks, the menue is changed for one day to "Schlachtschuessel", which means as much as slaughter day food. There are Bratwurst, Sauerkraut, boiled sausages and meat, and the famous bloodwurst. Homegrown farmers food, but booking is essential on these days.
The meals are generous in size, taste great and the prices are decent.
You'll find all the locals dining in this restaurant - always a good sign.
For home made, good food in a fancy-free Down-to-Earth place, go there for a meal.
Next time I'm there, I'll take some pics and upload them here.
