We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel - the room was recently refurbished and looked very neat and clean. The hotel is quite unique in the way that it is set up. Long walkways with colourful murals. The dinner here was delicious, a bit slow, but worth the wait.
There was no A/C but we managed fine, and it was nice to be greeted with (very good) tea and cake on our arrival. The staff were very friendly.

We were in a recently refurbished section of the hotel and really enjoyed our stay. Clean, bright, pleasant rooms with comfortable beds and an immaculately clean bathroom. No AC but the room did have a fan and that kept things comfortable albeit we did stay on quite a cool night. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful - quick to respond (our TV initially didn't work, but one call and within 5 minutes someone was up fixing it). Buffet was pretty decent - not the best we'd had during our trip but a wide, hot and fresh selection. A good location - just a 5 minute walk into the buzzing little town. A great stay - if the rest of the refurb goes the way of our room this will be a great little hotel.

The tea and cake on welcoming us were appreciated. We had one of the recently-refurbished rooms in the wing which were very clean and had all the mod cons expected of a modern hotel. The multi-channel flat screen TV was an unexpected treat. The evening buffet was a comprehensive selection of Sri Lankan and western food. The service was good and the staff friendly. The location is very urban and the pylon view unattractive, but it is easy to walk into the bustling town.

Room Tip: Judging by other reviews, get a refurbished room.

A piece of cake and cup of tea yo del come new guests. No Wi-Fi; the use of Internet is 200 rupees for half an hour. No A/C, no fan in the room (the city is pretty high above sea level, which doesn't keep mosquitoes off the rooms); no TV in the room either, but the New Testament is available instead, courtesy of the Gideons. Incredibly noisy during the day, a bit less during the night: earplugs are welcome. Two free bottles of water of 0.5 litres per room. Good buffet-style restaurant: during the dinner, a guitarist will play some tunes from table to table (very limited repertoire).

This was descibed in our information as a very basic hotel, but it was nicely decorated and had everything we wanted, so perhaps it has been refurbished.
Good breakfast buffet. Centrally located. The only problem was the communication with the receptionist, who didn't seem to understand English.

We stayed in this hotel for one night and it was sufficient for that. Bandarawela is not particularly special as a destination but its a useful stop if in this part of Sri Lanka, we arrived by train, which was a smashing experience. The hotel itself is crammed onto a site on the town edge. It is not the most modern hotel in Sri Lanka and not targeting Western tourists (although it is getting them) so no balconies or swimming pools here and the traditional strong smell of anti-mosquito chemicals in the rooms. Service was fine and the food on the buffet was also fine. Bizarrely there is a karoake bar here, should this urge strike you. There is a small area outside the bar where you can sit should you desire.

Room was sufficient, if a little tired. Bathroom has a bath and shower, although the shower taps were quite high up the wall. My room mate declared it a room without a right angle, this is not issue but I did find walking up the main staircase, which seems to have been constructed on the bias, a strange experience.

This hotel is perfectly adequate for a short stay but the location determines that you would probably not use it as a base for much longer than that.
