We spent 3 nights at Lewa. Our tent was very comfortable with hot running water, a nice break from bush showers! We had a wonderful game driver, Tom. The highlight was spending an hour watching 2 cheetah sisters grooming! This camp was larger than others we stayed at, so did not have the same intimacy. Cheli and Peacock just took over managing the camp and were training staff while we were there.

My family of 5 (kids: 11, 13 and 16) LOVED every minute of our 3 night stay at Lewa Safari Camp. We went on 2 safari drives a day - and loved the chance to rest in between. Our driver always brought drinks and snacks on the afternoon drives so that we could stop and watch the sun go down each evening. The food was terrific and I loved that we could check the dinner menu in advance (one evening we asked for a substitution for our non-fish eating daughter!) The luxury tents were beautifully appointed and there was lots of room for the 3 twin beds in a tent for our kids. I had considered staying at Lewa Wilderness (it was more expensive). After seeing both places, I know that we made the right choice for our family. We loved the tents and we would stay there again if we have the chance!
The staff worked very hard to make sure that we were happy.
Don't miss walking past tents 1 - 4 to the overlook at the watering hole. We saw elephants and giraffes from there.

This is another long overdue review. We travelled in October 2010 just before the advent of the short rains. There were few guests and the camp was winding down for a maintenance break. Just a note-this is not part of the main Lewa properties but is run by Cheli and Peacock. This is a stunning camp nevertheless, beautifully decorated in that safari camp chic which is so popular at the moment and, in the case of Lewa, works so well. Our tent was in a fabulous location perched over a small ridge with panoramic views of the savannah. The interior of the tent was straight out of an interiors magazine-rustic safari chic. I particularly liked the net screen instead of walls which made you feel like you were part of the bush but with enough protection. Heavy curtains could always be drawn for privacy. We were greeted by the formidable Sue who is the resident manager. She was charming and efficient and clearly good at looking after the guests. She ensured enough surprises such as the early morning bush breakfast by the river to make us very satisfied that we were getting more than our money's worth. The food was good but not special. The main attractions apart from the camp were the game drives through the superb scenery as well as the game walks and the horseriding (only possible in private land such as this). Their guides, Nissa, Daniel and the others are a fount of local knowledge -fauna, flora and people -and belong to the local Laikipiak Masai community. It is not so easy to spot game at Lewa but when it does appear, it is rewarding. Black and white rhino, lions, leopards amongst others. The landscape is wildly beautiful and unlike the Mara, does not feel overcrowded with tourists. But then I have always had a soft spot for Samburu from the moment I first visited in the seventies. Conservation is taken very seriously here and a lot of money seems to be set aside for this. Lewa is ultimately a private ranch and its fate will depend on its ownership. Go! This is a gem in a country that is not short of special places

Our group of family and friends spent four nights at Lewa Safari Camp. Our entire experience was outstanding. The location in the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is simply exceptional with amazing wildlife and the beautiful landscape of Laikipia and the Mt Kenya area. The accommodations and food were excellent and the physical facilities, including the tents, dining areas, and pool are attractive and very well maintained. The staff was attentive and highly responsive to all requests. Our group included four children and the staff went out of their way to make their visit an enormous success. Above all, the wildlife guides were highly knowledgeable and helped to make our visit to Lewa a life-changing experience for everyone. This was especially true for the adults and children who were visiting East Africa for the first time. Thank you to Tom and Francis for helping to make our visit so interesting and enjoyable. I would recommend Lewa Safari Camp to anyone considering a visit to Kenya.

We had a wonderful time at the Lewa Safari Camp. The food was excellent. We learned so much from our game driver Alex. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. The tents are very well appointeed - you can tell that a lot of thought has gone into designing this property. And Freckles was an excellent greeter! Highly recommended!
