We spent 3 lovely nights at Kicheche Laikipia Camp at the start of our holiday and from the moment we arrived, it had a great feeling about it. It wasn't pretentious and having been on safari before, it was exactly what we had hoped for. Sonja and Andrew are very down to earth people and because the camp is also their home, not only do they make your stay feel very homely but also join their guests at mealtimes share experiences and show interest in their visitors.
A lot of thought and effort that goes into each mealtime (which we are sure is heavily influenced by Sonja's passion for food and cooking)! But hearing each meal announced by their lovely staff was most endearing.
The tents were of a high standard with excellent facilities. We saw great game here (some of it directly from our tent in the form of a large herd of elephants that came to play in the water) and the guiding was also superb. We also took advantage of Andrew's offer to take us out one morning for a walking safari to help burn off some of those calories.
The climate was a lot cooler than we had prepared for (mostly due to the altitude) but there were some great little touches like hot water bottles in the bed and in the jeep for the morning drive that were really appreciated.
We would definitely recommend a stay here for anybody doing a safari in the Laikipia Disctrict.

We stayed at the camp in early November 2013. Its a small camp with 6 tents. The tents are comfortable but be aware the showers were bucket showers. Quaint and fun but we were unlucky and while there, it rained a lot! Really would have appreciated a long hot shower…
The hosts Andy and Sonja were really lovely. Very helpful and the food was great.
Ive been to other camps which had a better position. From the camp there is a water hole but it was just a bit too far away to see the wildlife.
The surrounding park is fabulous and we saw fantastic wildlife.
My last Safari was in Botswana. Kenya in comparison seems a bit tame but if your main objective is to see the wildlife, Kenya might be unbeatable. Botswana felt more adventurous and there were fewer other jeeps.

Dear Kerstin B

Thank you for staying with us and taking the time to post your review. We are sorry that it rained a lot during your stay though we are all fortunate that our wildlife does not go away come rain, hail or shine. The comment you made regarding bucket showers is really puzzling as we do not have bucket showers at our Laikipia property. Each tent has a shower with hot and cold running water and a plentiful supply of hot water piped in from the nearby boiler. You should therefore have been able to take the long hot shower you desired, perhaps there is some confusion with another property?
Regards
Greg Monson
Director

We can only reiterate all the superlatives that have been used before - a lovely comfortable camp with Andy & Sonya as excellent hosts. It was very wet when we were there and the loan of wellies for our stay was much appreciated. The food was superb and there was always a good choice. We had good game viewing although some of the roads were a bit tricky due to the rain. We would not hesitate to recommend this camp and hope to go again when the weather is a bit drier.

Small camp , only 6 tented camps, the atmosphere is relaxed and homely , staff are very helpful and friendly. The camp has been done up beautifully. What I really liked in this package was the all inclusive drinks and game drives that come along with it. Also inclusive was the visit to the chimp sanctuary, rhino sanctuary and other activities.
The food is fresh and good quality, and special dietary needs are taken care of too . Please don't hesitate to visit!
