We booked to stay at Kicheche Laikipia following a good amount of research online and our stay entirely met, in fact exceeded, our expectations.

Although we had been on safari before (in South Africa), this was our first stay in a bush camp (previously we had stayed in small lodges) so we were not 100% sure what to expect. In fact our accommodation was lovely: a large and very spacious tent with a big, super comfortable bed, ensuite toilet and warm shower and a lovely verandah overlooking the watering hole from where we saw a host of animals coming to drink each day - stunning!

All of the staff at the camp were wonderful- very friendly, extremely polite, and we felt very well looked after. The food was excellent- both in quality and quantity- they certainly don't want you to go hungry at Kicheche Laikipia!

Our host, Andy, was amazingly knowledgeable and extremely friendly, as was our fantastic guide, Francis. We saw an unbelievable amount of wildlife through a combination of game drives (including a brilliant afternoon spent lion tracking!) and an early morning game walk. Actually, I think we were totally spoilt, but we loved every minute of it!

Laikipia and the Ol Pejeta conservancy are a little off the typical tourist track in Kenya, but they are definitely worth the small detour - the game viewing is outstanding, and because there are very few lodges/camps in or near the conservancy, you basically feel as though you have the place to yourself - magic (and quite different from our subsequent stay in the Mara).

In summary, an outstanding camp in an outstanding location making for a very memorable safari experience.

This was my first visit to Kicheche-Laikipia, although I’ve stayed at other Kicheche camps before (and have thoroughly enjoyed them all). I’ve had the pleasure of staying with Sonja and Andy, managers extraordinaires, twice before, so when I plan a trip to Kenya, their camp is definitely on my itinerary. Andy scouted out a truly magical location for this camp, in front of a large water hole (more like a small lake when I was there, during the short rains), so there are always birds and other animals around. Sonja and Andy have a knack for finding some of the nicest staff imaginable. William and Juma helped make every meal a delight, with impeccable, warm service, and they were always willing to help me learn new Swahili words and phrases. Similarly, night guards Bernard and Charles were always friendly and helpful. Mohammed, my guide, is simply extraordinary. There seems no limit to his knowledge, but what’s best is his enthusiasm. He clearly loves being out in the wild and studying the animals. His (and Andy’s, too) endless enthusiasm for the wildlife is infectious. Other great things about Kicheche-Laikipia: Only six tents, and everyone eats meals together, so you have a chance to hear about everyone else’s adventures. The tents are lovely, the food is incredible and the atmosphere at Kicheche-Laikipia is that of a big family. It definitely feels like a home away from home, and I’ll be going “home” again as soon as possible.

Absolutely outstanding. This is the standard by which all lodges should be measured. Every little detail is taken care of. Incredible setting by a huge water hole, fantastic food, wonderful hosting from Andy and fabulously friendly and helpful staff. On our first night, dinner was served in our tent because we were the only guests – the table was beautifully set and it was a lovely surprise.

The wildlife viewing was incredible: within 20 minutes of leaving the lodge we saw four lions on the road. We saw elephants, jackals, hyenas, rhino and cheetah (the icing on the cake). Andrew was a first class guide. We wish fervently that we'd stayed longer.

We thoroughly enjoyed this lodge and the experiences we shall treasure for a lifetime.

Please ensure that you visit the Chimp Sanctuary: there is a photo of every chimp in the Visitor's Centre along with their individual stories of atrocious cruelty. It made me feel sick to the stomach thinking about the barbaric treatment these poor animals have been subjected to. However, now they are safe and cared for - they are the lucky ones. An uplifting, but ultimately harrowing, experience not to be missed.

We came to Kicheche Laikipia with high expectations based on previous visits to other Kicheche camps. Kicheche Laikipia still managed to exceed all our expectations.

Andy does a great job of managing the camp and making you feel at home. Everything runs smoothly and seemingly effortlessly. The camp is in a great location - most days we spent our mid-day break sitting outside our tent watching 30 or 40 elephants drinking on the opposite side of the watering hole. The tents are amazing - spacious and comfortable.

The staff in camp are friendly and helpful. The food is simply incredible and there's plenty of it!

One of the reasons we go back to Kicheche's camps is the quality of their guides, but our guide at Kicheche Laikipia (Andrew) was first class. His knowledge of the area and the wildlife was amazing. He was like an encyclopedia and clearly really enjoyed his job.

The game viewing in this area is different to more popular areas like the Mara, but there was still plenty to see. Despite being unlucky with the weather during our 3 days, we had great experiences with black rhino, elephants, lions, and huge herds of zebra and giraffe. It also made it more special that there were hardly any other vehicles around.

Room Tip: All rooms are huge with comfortable beds and showers and toilets ensuite

We had 3 wondeful nights at Laikipia camp. We flew into Nanyuki airstrip and after a bumpy hour long drive we arrived and was greeted by Andrew our gracious host.
Our tent was spacious and very comfortable with nice little touches to make us feel at home.
The game drives were excellent our guide Andrew knew everything about the wildlife. We also did Lion tracking which was very exciting and visited the Chimp sanctuary which was OK but we only saw a few chimps behind fences. But still a great cause.
We saw Black and white Rhinos, lots of Giraffe, hyena, Cheetah (with cubs) and plenty of Elephants.... one even charged our trucks which was exciting!
The food was delicous, a great variety and fresh ingredients... the Soups were the best!
Hot water bottles were in our bed at night and trust me you need them as it was very chilly in the evening and first thing in the morning ( we were up at 6am for game drives)
Met some lovely people to.... all in all a fab experience and fully recommended.

Room Tip: only 6 tents all identical
