After a 30 min steep climb (once the tarmac changes into a stone path), you reach this plateau where the rifugio/hut is located. There is a large grass area and some tables.

The choice of meals is limited. Expect a choice of salads, polenta and anti-pasti. As always, after some excercise, almost everything will taste good :)

After a 1:30 min walk following the gtaTrail from the village of wold (red & white stripes marks) we arrived at one most beautiful scenery in the Alps you have the monte Rosa chain just in front of you. The food is simple but tasty and real effort to make it look nice as well. Great service and very friendly ... I already miss the place.

I had lunch with couple friends after back country skiing down from Monte Rosa and was probably happiest just to sit down and take a break. Inside the restaurant looked of fresh log beams and warm fire. My group had a lunch menu and chose the 'stinco' (pork shank) and I had the lamb chops with baked potatoes, baked apples and greens. The chops were OK but a little tasteless and my 'stinco' eating pals thought there was just a little too much fat. Dessert was more interesting, apple strudel and tiramisu, but I thought the food was just OK. Given the scenic location a couple km's from Alagna it was still a pleasant experience. Service was friendly and attentive, the beer was cold and the Genepy went down well with the coffee. All but one indoor table was reserved by noon on a Sunday.

15 Euros per main course, dessert and other stuff extra. The total bill for group of 4 came to Euros 105.

In the Spring when the snow is melting in the lower valleys it's important to know that the hike up to the refuge is up-hill and at one point the trail rises steeply up a slippery rock. There's a rope to help people climb over this to get them on their way. You can take a taxi from Alagna up to the trail which would be about 15-20 minute walk up to the refuge.

It is a worthwhile effort to reach this restaurant - either hiking up from Wold or off-piste skiing in from Balma. The restaurant architecture and design are authentic and very beautiful. Same for the mountain views. The fireplace makes it even more cozy and offers a chance to warm and dry up while eating. Finally, the food is delicious - everything we tried, including desserts. Check in advance in the winter season if they are open, because it varies.

In a beautiful, bright sunshine day, we left Alagna Village and we started our tracking on the trails towards the Rifugio Pastore. The magnificent Autum colors of the nature were serrounding us and the view of the Monte Rosa in front of us was really amazing. When we reached the large, green, almost flat, area where the Rifugio Pastore is located, the view of the Monte Rosa was unbelievably beautiful!
Being quite hungry, after one and half hour of good walking, we went into the Rifugio, to get our lunch. Inside, the environment and the atmosphere were quite good, with a large glass window wall, which was granting a perfect natural light. Michele, our waiter, in a professional and in the same time cheerful way, helped us selecting the foods. We started with a nice plate of cold cuts and one plate with a variety of cheeses. We continued with polenta, together with Porcini mushrooms and sausages in red sauce. Dessert was a blueberries cake, covered by whipped Cream. Espresso coffees, Genepi' and Blueberry liqors, to finish. Simply fantastic!!!!
It is for sure recommended.
