Although the hotel it set in a beautiful location and looks lovely from the outside, I found our room to be very shabby (not at all like the photos used on the web site). The decor was very tired and the room felt unclean. As a previous reviewer commented - grime around the taps, grubby silicone, hairs in the bath etc. The bed's seen better days too as our head was below our feet!!

The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was super. It would have been good to have had a dinner menu on display - as we had no idea about the food there (and were a little put off by our room) we ate elsewhere. Just a shame the accommodation let it down. Maybe the room we got is next in line for a revamp??

We arrived on Friday night to be told that the room we had only had a bath but when we asked for a shower they promptly changed us to another room which was great. Great ales in the bar and large selection of drams. Food in restuarant was fantastic and would recommend staying here, only 15 min drive across moors to Pitlochry,

What a lucky find! This place is perfect for those who want a quiet break without having to spend massive amounts of cash.

The rooms are spotless and generally the hotel is pristine.

The bar is stocked with many different malts and the best bit - you get a good amount of change from a £20, unlike another hotel which we passed in Bridge of Cally.

The staff are excellent and the food is top notch.

Overall, if you want to have a wonderful time then stay here! it is brilliant!

Took advantage of a £50 DB&B Spring offer and found it excellent value for money. The Hotel was small but well run. Though on an A road, the picturesque village of Kirkmichael was so small and sleepy that the passage of another motor vehicle was cause for heads to turn. Booked it after reading other favourable reviews on Trip Advisor, but we must have been in the minority as we appeared to be the only other guests [except locals calling in for Evening meals. The Breakfast was great, as was the "chalk - board" selected x3 course evening meal which we ate in the Restaurant [though could be eaten in the bar]. After Dinner, a stroll along the A road was rewarded with a passing group of Red Deer trotting across [do Deer trot?] - so, as I said, hardly the M1!
Only minor criticism? For today's tourists, the room probably needed to be slighly plusher finished. However, at the price, that is being "picky". Overall, another success for Trip Advisor!!

We spent 5 nights in the Strathardle Inn with our 11 and 13 year old boys and had a really delightful holiday . The food was excellent and the rooms large, airy , pleasantly decorated and very comfortable. It's a stunningly beautiful part of the world and we did some great mountain walks along the Cateran Trail , tried some skiiing at Glenshee , and had a truly memorable day hawking. The bar was snug and cosy as befits a proper hospitable old inn , and it was fun to meet local people there over a dram or three (also very good beer) . Above all the Owners were so friendly , welcoming and bent over backwards to make our stay perfect in every way.

We booked here after reading good reviews?? When we arrived we were shown to chalets/accomodation adjacent to the Hotel, these were obviously furnished for self catering. First impressions, Cold, not clean, not a welcoming room. After asking for a room inside the main building we were shown to a room which we thought was a big improvement? Unfortunately, the bathroom was not clean i.e. horrible grime around taps etc. the room was warmer and an additional heater was provided. The bed was uncomfortable with springs digging into you and the pillows were worse, more likened to hundreds of cotton wool balls stuffed inside. THE BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT was the terrible noise from the water pipes which absolutely drove you mad ALL NIGHT LONG. The water is electrically pumped and the noise begins if you or anyone in the adjoining rooms use it, but then it continues to emit loud sounds-like the tank is refilling -but for hours. It goes without saying that we didn't sleep very well at all!
On a more positive note, the meals were of very good standard and plenty, the bar and sitting room were comfortable with open fires, drinks were of fair /good prices. I certainly would recommend the food and drink, but not the accommodation.
The proprietors were quite hospitable, it was such a shame the bedrooms let it down.

......sound like the start of a joke?

We booked a 2 night stay here to use as a base for visiting the highlands and, more importantly, whisky distilleries.

It turned out to be an excellent find. Ironically, it was recommended by a local hotel manager, who was full, and it met all he had to say about it.

The rooms are simply furnished and of a good size, particulary the cottage rooms in the adjoining building. Clean and newly refurbished, with adequate heating and excellent showers.

The food is of a standard that took me by surprise.

Breakfast: Damn good typical Scottish breakfast with individual requirements of the guests happily catered for.

Dinner: Fantastic quality. You would be happy if you paid £50 for these dishes in a major city restuarant. We paid £50 for dinner, bed AND breakfast per night. The menu changes regularly depending on the availability of local produce. Of the 8 guests in our party, not one had a single complaint about the food throughout our stay.
If I was to nitpick, a couple of my friends said there was not enough time to relax between courses.
The crispy duck with black pudding was the best starter I have ever had.

Bar: Beautiful bar with a great selection of fine malts and the proprietor, Tim, is always willing to advise and reccommend depending on your tastes. The coal fire and the presence of locals made this a real cosy and authentic eviroment for my German friends to sample.

This hotel is within 2 hours of Glasgow and Edinburgh and 15 minutes away from the commercialism and coach tours of Pitlochry. i will be back for a quiet weekend with my wife when I get the chance.
