“Very good but pricy”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

Only ate here one evening when having a cheapy Groupon break with friends at the Nae Limits Log hotel in Kirkmichael (see separate review). The inn is very quaint and quirky, as is the landlord, not all that friendly but definitely a character. The bar was gorgeous, also full of local character but we were whisked away to the restaurant before we got a chance to enjoy its charm. The restaurant was very q and q as well and a very nice atmosphere, slightly reserved. The staff were friendly and accomodating. Excellent menu and wine list but not that cheap. All the food was delicious and well presented and served promptly. The wines were served at just the right temperature. All in all a very pleasant meal. The bill came to £150 for 2 1/2 courses for four, with wine, which we felt was a bit steep. Apart from that, highly recommended.

We stayed for one night as the hotel is only 9 miles from Glenshee so we could go boarding early the next day without travelling for hours. It's a beautiful hotel in an idyllic setting. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble they even put on breakfast earlier for us so we could get away sharp the next morning.
Can't fault the room and the food was amazing, my wife is a vegetarian and she had no complaints. We had packed lunches made up ready to collect at breakfast and the breakfast itself was perfect.
Wish we could have stayed longer, definitely be back.

We have just returned from a wonderful night away in this inn. The owner allowed us to check in early as the room was available. This was great as we wanted to make the most of our 'mini break' and have a drive around the area.
After freshening up, we had a coffee and locally homemade cake at the local community shop.
We then drove over to Pitlochry and took the dog for a walk around the dam.
When we returned to our room my husband had a long soak in the deep bath before popping downstairs for a wonderful 3 course meal.
The wine list was very extensive and reasonably priced, all in all a great experience!
We loved it so much that we are returning in 3 weeks to celebrate hubbies birthday!

Room Tip: Room 6 is just the best!

Just back from a stay at the Strathardle inn with my bf and puppy Miss Moët through an itison deal. We had a fabulous time and can not recommend the place enough. The inn is placed in beautiful settings, nearby lots of walks and next to kirkmichael town itself (where there is another hotel bar and shop/cafe etc). It's really good that you can take your dog to stay with you and enjoy the walks and even the bar together! It's a cosy wee hotel, our room was large and had lovely views over the garden. There is a small tv, hair dryer(which miss Moët used) and tea and coffee making facilities. They also provide soaps and shampoo essential items. Had meal in the bar which was lovely. Much much better than u would expect from such a small place. I disagree with jocelyns review as I too am veggie and there was a couple of starters and mains to choose from. I also had the filo mushrooms. There were at least 6 if I remember correctly and they were lovely. My bf got a burger and it was stacked really high with home made onion rings and chips. Nomnom. We loved it. The breakfast in morning was also plentiful with a choice of anything u could think of (including veggie) as well as fresh fruit eg pineapple, melons, yogurts tea and toast.

We will def return here again as we loved the little village and strathardle inn. We may go in the summer time so as to next time avoid the snow and utilise the beer garden!

Xxx

Room Tip: We stayed in room overlooking beer garden. Couldn't fault it.

The room was filthy. In desperate need of a revamp and my partner had to wipe the wall behind the bed as when we looked up it was layered in dust. I couldn't sleep.

For a recommended restaurant there was no vegetarian option and when requested we were charged £12 for 4 mushrooms wrapped in filo pastry.

After a terrible night we were charged £90 even though we had a holiday deal.

I would not recommend.

Stayed over the night before heading up to Glenshee Skiing, Hotel welcoming and friendly. Rooms were comfortable clean and tidy with beautiful views. We arrived too late for dinner because of the snow, however breakfast in the morning was fantastic. Perfect for setting you up for a days skiing. Will definitely go back again, great value and amazing setting. See my Pictures.

Room Tip: Rooms facing road had great views.

I couldn't believe how good the food was here, my only complaint was that I was too stuffed to have a dessert. I had gammon steak which is nothing like I'd usually choose when eating out but I am so glad I ordered this, it was so tasty and the vegetables that came in a separate bowl were excellent. We asked about the chef and when the owner said she was his wife I couldn't help but think 'lucky man'. The rooms are classy and clean, very reasonably priced.
