“Went for evening meal, very disappointed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2012

Often passed this Inn and thought we would try it for early evening meal.
Entered bar and looked at specials board. My wife only wanted ham, egg and chips, and it was on the board in the bar. Told to go through to restaurant, and were seated. After looking at menu my wife changed her mind, and asked for the steak and kidney pudding. 'No sorry we don't have this, that's the only thing that we don't have' said the waitress, and bear in mind this was early evening at about seven o'clock. So my wife asked for the ham, egg and chips. 'No that's only on the lunch menu'. So she ordered their burger and chips with salad, and I ordered the Beef in red wine and mushroom sauce on a bed of bread, which was on their specials board in the restaurant.
Then she came back to say no beef in red wine, but we can put Irish stew on the bread base. So I had fish and chips. When the meals were brought out, no salad with the burger!
We ate our meals with a real feeling of being let down by what looked to be a decent restaurant.

Lovely wedding service, well worth the money, food was very nice and tables settings etc, Be nice to have a wedding here again. But as for hotel rooms could be alot cleaner, bathroom had hair and dust on floor, toilet system didn't have a flush handle had to use one finger to push flusher as was broken, tiles and lights fallen off in bathroom, and no mirror apart from a tiny face mirror bathroom , and that was steamed up , from shower, bath taps refused to work so filled bath up from shower. Young man on check was very nice and chatted to you , but girl on checkout didn't even both to say anything, no customer service, which wont help if someone at wedding party was thinking of booking.
I no there has to be rooms where u don't get much views and id never complain about that , but really looking out on a tiled roof was a bit funny, good job i had enough to drink and wasn't there for a nice holiday. those rooms are the ones you charge less for .
But on a good note , breakfast was first class and waitress was lovely xx Lovely romantic setting, they could really do much better xxi will stay if ever i go to another wedding there .

Room Tip: make sure not room 16,

Having scoured the area for a place to stay on the bank holiday weekend in August, we eventually found this B&B. It was a very interesting building in a quiet and pleasant village, close to Eastbourne, where we needed to be. We were given a spacious room, which overlooked the main road, with a four-poster bed. It was reasonably clean, but much in need of refurbishment, a pity as the room had great potential. I really didn't like the textured walls which seemed to be mock stone, really awful, but I suppose it was in fashion once. It had lovely beams however as this is one of the oldest rooms in the Hotel, very much in keeping with its character. As there is a more modern annexe attached to the building, there are more modern, but smaller rooms to choose from. There were problems with some noise from the bar downstairs, but this soon died down as people left and was not too troublesome. The bathroom was a very good size, but didn't have a shower, which was a nightmare when I wanted to wash my hair. Breakfast was good and there was a reasonable selection to choose from. This was served in the restaurant, which I had noticed had been full the night before, so obviously it was fairly popular. On the whole I did feel that it was good value for the price we paid, and we would use this Hotel again for an overnight stay.

Room Tip: Room 21 can be noisy and does not have a shower.

Friendly helpfull staff, nice room and comfortable bed. Within easy reach of main coastal resorts. We used this hotel as a base to travel around, and was not disappointed. Food was great as well, cooked to order! Will use it again.

Upon arrival, receptionist was extremely helpful, welcoming and pleasant. On the flipside, the breakfast staff were less than enthusiastic, required training on customer service, and left a very poor impression in general. I requested a poached egg on toast, and I was told he would need to check if they can do poached eggs today. The waiter then returned and said poached eggs were unavailable today. Does this mean they are available on other days? The other waitress dumped a basket of cold, squashed toast on the table without saying a word - no greeting, no check to make sure we even wanted toast, nothing... There was no breakfast menu available - we were just asked what we wanted (which wasn't available anyway). Surely menus would cost little but add a lot to the service? The room was tiny, tired and dated. The lampshades were screwed onto the wall but were screwed on crooked - easily rectified, surely? The wallpaper and décor was extremely dated and the windows were so clogged up with grime that we could barely get them open (on a very hot day). The hotel advertised that all rooms had a hairdryer, but the only hairdryer in situ was one of those old-fashioned ones which is attached to the bathroom wall and which blows out no air or heat whatsoever. Some money spent on this place would transform it into a gorgeous country inn, and would make a weekend break far more enjoyable.

We booked a one night stay through laterooms, and at only £45 were a little dubious as to what we were going to find. Some of the reviews on here would scare you half to death, but if you don't expect The Ritz, you won't be disappointed.A very pleasant lady checked us in and off we went to our room.Although it certainly wasn't luxurious,it was clean, and had everything we needed. The en-suite had a lovely shower, was clean too,but the loo was screaming out for a squirt of bleach! Would have made a huge difference. On check-in we were told that as it was a bank holiday, breakfast would be till 10,so we turned up in the dining room for breakfast about 9-30,looking forward to the delights on offer. No one had told the waitress or chef that breakfast was till 10,and the kitchen had been closed down at 9.We weren't the only couple who had been told 10,other people had too,so chef kindly cooked our breakfasts, allbeit minus the sausages! It was very nice too, with hot toast, juices and cereals. We would definitely stay at the Horseshoe again,at £45 it is a bargain, but we would hope for quieter guests as neighbours. Our sleep was somewhat disturbed by inconsiderate people banging doors and making unnecessary noise. Yes the building could do with a bit of a freshen up,but we enjoyed our stay, and we wondered why so many people found fault with it,just don't expect too much !!

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, maybe a room at the front of the Inn is not for you !
