“A great break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2012

Friendly helpfull staff, nice room and comfortable bed. Within easy reach of main coastal resorts. We used this hotel as a base to travel around, and was not disappointed. Food was great as well, cooked to order! Will use it again.

we have been here before in the past and liked it but this time round it was a disaster, couldnt get to bed on the first night because of live music that they had on till midnight, the breakfast was just as bad coz the waitress couldnt speak good english she was very slow to serve you and the cost of the night and breakie wasnt worth what we paid, wouldnt go again.

Room Tip: there isnt one

Upon arrival, receptionist was extremely helpful, welcoming and pleasant. On the flipside, the breakfast staff were less than enthusiastic, required training on customer service, and left a very poor impression in general. I requested a poached egg on toast, and I was told he would need to check if they can do poached eggs today. The waiter then returned and said poached eggs were unavailable today. Does this mean they are available on other days? The other waitress dumped a basket of cold, squashed toast on the table without saying a word - no greeting, no check to make sure we even wanted toast, nothing... There was no breakfast menu available - we were just asked what we wanted (which wasn't available anyway). Surely menus would cost little but add a lot to the service? The room was tiny, tired and dated. The lampshades were screwed onto the wall but were screwed on crooked - easily rectified, surely? The wallpaper and décor was extremely dated and the windows were so clogged up with grime that we could barely get them open (on a very hot day). The hotel advertised that all rooms had a hairdryer, but the only hairdryer in situ was one of those old-fashioned ones which is attached to the bathroom wall and which blows out no air or heat whatsoever. Some money spent on this place would transform it into a gorgeous country inn, and would make a weekend break far more enjoyable.

We booked a one night stay through laterooms, and at only £45 were a little dubious as to what we were going to find. Some of the reviews on here would scare you half to death, but if you don't expect The Ritz, you won't be disappointed.A very pleasant lady checked us in and off we went to our room.Although it certainly wasn't luxurious,it was clean, and had everything we needed. The en-suite had a lovely shower, was clean too,but the loo was screaming out for a squirt of bleach! Would have made a huge difference. On check-in we were told that as it was a bank holiday, breakfast would be till 10,so we turned up in the dining room for breakfast about 9-30,looking forward to the delights on offer. No one had told the waitress or chef that breakfast was till 10,and the kitchen had been closed down at 9.We weren't the only couple who had been told 10,other people had too,so chef kindly cooked our breakfasts, allbeit minus the sausages! It was very nice too, with hot toast, juices and cereals. We would definitely stay at the Horseshoe again,at £45 it is a bargain, but we would hope for quieter guests as neighbours. Our sleep was somewhat disturbed by inconsiderate people banging doors and making unnecessary noise. Yes the building could do with a bit of a freshen up,but we enjoyed our stay, and we wondered why so many people found fault with it,just don't expect too much !!

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, maybe a room at the front of the Inn is not for you !

Do not be fooled by the website or late rooms, this hotel only has one four poster room, and this is the bridal suite, see previous review. Also, ther is nothing elegant about this hotel think 70's Blackpool and student bedsit., perhaps even worse. No one tends to you during your stay, no bin emptied, no clean towels, no fresh coffee or tea. if you want more loo roll be prepared for the walk of shame as they pop more loo roll through the kitchen door and you have to march through the restaurant with it. There are no doors on the wardrobes either, beware of room 7, window opens onto flue vents from kitchen and log burner.

Room Tip: Go from room on front if you must

Stayed here for two nights whilst visiting gardens in the area. Dissapointing, first room we were given large, nicely appointed and with 4 poster bed, but despite published information saying with shower it only had a bath without shower facilities so no washing of hair! No problems staff soon offered replacement room - light and airy and with small, but adequate shower room and £10 per night cheaper too! However, bed uncomfortable mattress tired out and springs much in evidence. Position close to an "A" road gave rise to anxiety about noise, but it did become relatively quiet after about 11:30pm, though it would have been better if the window would have closed and not had a siezed hinge! Breakfast was so-so, adquate but nothing to write home about, so we were glad we'd eaten out in Pevensey the previous evening and decided to eat out the second evening too.

Returning back to our room that evening we found that although the bed had been made, the damp towels from the morning were just where we had left them on the ensuite door handle and still damp, the shower gel had not been replaced, the waste bucket had not been emptied and still contained the (now smelly!) banana skin deposited that morning and worse still an additional dirty, blood-stained towel now resided on the arm of the sofa!! As another reviewer noted, no one manning the reception, but complaints to the bar staff soon elicited clean towels and profound apologies, but why should this have happened? Obviously no one is keeping a check on the housekeeping. Shame really, place has some character and could do much better.

Hotel picture perfect, shame about the stay.Reception unmanned, eventually barman assisted evening meal so-so.In bar 1hr no request 4 payment, assumed settlement at check out.Bed at 11pm trying to sleep, incessant machinery noise and room illuminated by outdoor lighting, disturbed by barman at door requesting payment for meal, brewery regulations.Told noise was beer chiller, which would continue all night, lights would go out at 12-15am.Could take no more disturbance despite having paid for 2 nights.Reception deserted again, keys left on desk by others guests, one told me he had no sleep either due to noise.Written to RelaxInnz MD.no response or compensation after 2 weeks,Says it all don't use this place!!!
