My wife & I moved into the village just over a year ago & this pub is just how a traditional English pub should be. We were made to feel very welcome from our first visit and now count oureslves lucky to say this is our local. Lots of character in a great village location. Food is always tasty and very reasonably priced. The beer is as good as you will get. This pub is the heart of the village and pretty much all the clubs around use it which says a lot. They could go elsewhere if they didn't like it but they don't which to my mind says it all. Staff are great, always good banter going on. We love the fact there is no music, no noisy machines etc, just the atmosphere of a great pub. Although we haven't stayed here so can't comment on the rooms we see many of the same business people week in/week out & they all love it as well - I can only think that the couple of bad reviewers would have been better staying in a soulless modern box hotel not a quaint, characterfull place. Just returned from a few nights at the neeld. They call themselves a proper pub and it certainly is. Deliicous home cooked food (and a good selection of beers on draft) and the very friendly charactfull landlord who made us feel welcome and at home. Our bedroom was clean with fresh flowers and very comfortable . Breakfast was prompt with local sausages and bacon which was a real treat. Lots of things to do and see in the local area. We will be back!

Stayed at The Neeld Arms for 2 nights. What a great pub in a lovely village ! All the staff were very helpful, the room was creaky and contemporary at the same time. We spent the night in the bar with the welcoming locals who seemed intent on having a good time. The landlord must be related to Boris Johnson, he is a classic ! Get off the M4 and visit the Neeld. If you expect Travel Lodge style mediocrity, don't come here !

Room Tip: Room 6 is great

My wife and I recently moved to the area and took time to try and find a good pub that would hopefully become our local. There are numerous good pubs in the area but from the moment we entered the bar at The Neeld we knew "This was it". It is a PROPER pub and these are few and far between these days. A very friendly landlord, so we simply don't understand some of the comments made, a great range of beer with exceptionally well kept 6X, a fantastic buzz of conversation with a friendly mix of regulars who will talk to anybody and make you feel very welcome, and good simple pub food. The home made pies are fantastic. No juke box, no tv, no fruit machines - just a fantastic local pub. Every time we walk in we feel so lucky to live within range of what a proper pub should be. We just love The Neeld. And yes we are very new to the area but already feel like locals, and are treated as such, because of Charlie's warm welcome and great sense of humour. How lucky we are to have such a great pub on our doorstep. G & G - two grateful locals!:))

The landlady is nice, and it ends there. Food is poorly cooked - I had a pork loin which was dry, veg was in parts overcooked, sauce bland. Really quite bad. Nobody asked how whether it was acceptable! I was told to order my food at the bar, but "locals" had their orders taken at the table. Appalling service and clear preference and bias. The pub is in a beautiful village, but it has no competition, which may be the root cause of the bad food and unwelcoming experience. In a nutshell, go there if you have no other option and can tolerate a generous dose of condecendance and apathy for an evening. I would rather starve personally.

What can I say. I had high hopes for the Neeld Arms. From the outside it looks like the perfect quaint rural idyll. Unfortunately this is not the case.

Our room in the Neeld Arms was very dusty and the overall cleanliness left a lot be desired. Under the bed was THICK with dust! The plug hole of the bathroom sink was dirty with a brown scum as was the fixtures in the shower that hold the shower gel and shampoo. The shower itself was a trickle of water. The light above the shower fixture was unprotected which must be a safety risk. In the morning we were woken to the overwhelming (and I mean overwhelming!) smell of stewing/frying onions!

On the first morning, the sour and rude landlord (Charlie) served us breakfast. On the breakfast table, some of the crockery was filthy to say the least and breakfast was nearly slung at us when it arrived. This was matched with some very interesting ‘snail trails’ on the carpet around the breakfast tables!

The only redeeming factor was the waitress who served us on the second morning. She was lovely, very polite and helpful. It’s such a pity to experience such bad service in a place with such potential.

Overall, it seems like guests are a serious inconvenience to Charlie, the landlord. I wonder if the £190.00 that we paid for our two night stay was also an inconvenience to him?
