“cosy autumn retreat”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

Had a lovely anniversary stay for two nights. Room 4 had lots of Scottish character and a roll top bath in the en suite. Very good breakfast with Stornoway black pudding and the meals were excellent if a little pricey. Log fire and friendly staff all added to a relaxed ambiance.

I honestly couldn't say this was the best hotel I've stayed in, but it would be an extremely close run decision. The staff were friendly, courteous and helpful from check-in to check-out. The room was just right for purpose. The food was cooked to order, whether for dinner or breakfast, and the menu choice was first class. The whole ambiance of the Hotel was just right. More especially, the prices were not extortionate. The only fault, if you can call it that, was that the bed was a bit on the soft side for us. All in all, my wife and I can't speak highly enough of the "Tormaukin", and we will certainly be returning.

Room Tip: Get a room in the stable block.

Travelling up to the very North West of Scotland we decided to stay here overnight to break up the journey. It more than lived up to expectations after reading previous reviews. The staff were very professional and made the stay most enjoyable. Room was good and the food excellent. Also very dog-friendly!

Hospitality, a friendly staff, an 18th-century country inn with ten spacious rooms, open fires, delicious locally sourced food: it's hard to imagine a more ideal retreat! This is where we arrived at the end of a five days whisky tour and after visiting Tullibardine, which distillery we absolutely can recommend.
From the evening menu we've chosen as starters 'home smoked meat' and 'pan seared duck breast', main courses: 'braised lamb shank' and 'crispy belly of pork'. Everything was perfect! The restaurant also has an interesting and friendly priced wine list.
And after diner: a whisky at the bar!

Scotland has an abundance of top quality hotels in the high price bracket. But most of the 2 and 3 star hotels I have seen are in dire need of refurbishment. So what a surprise to find just the ticket right in the middle of Perthshire. On the outside you have the look of a 100 year old building. Inside the charm of a cosy inn has been tastefully maintained. But the rooms have been refurnished to a completely modern standard without losing out on the original character of the building. WELL DONE !!
But the highlight of our stay was the excellent food and wine list at very affordable prices.
Very attentive staff and a chatty, informative barman made for a wonderful evening - scottish hospitality as it used to be and became famous for.
I only wished we could have stayed longer.
Only qualm - the beds were soft - new mattresses required sometime.
Will be back !!

A really lovely hotel , with excellent food and lovely staff.
Our party of 4 arrived for Sunday Lunch at 1.30. We were promptly escorted to a table next to an open log fireplace in the light & airy dining room . It was very busy , but our drinks order was taken immediately and arrived while we were looking at the menu. The food also arrived quickly - thanks to the very pleasant, hard-working staff.
The prawn cocktail starters were a meal in themselves - delicious!
The mains of beef and lamb were cooked to perfection, and were accompanied by fresh vegetables .
Greed got the better of us and we all had desserts - the ice cream was lovely and the sticky toffee pudding defeated me ( and I never leave a sweet! )
High standards of service and food - definitely going back !

What a great little place to host a an intimate family wedding. After the previous weeks fiasco with lunch and them being extremly busy and with there staff getting it wrong, well credit where its due thay got it right in fact they got it bang on perfect.
Everything from the venue to the food (wow) to the service was faultless.
The wee waiter who cocked up the previous week recognised me and appologised and he more tahn made up for it and was absolutely charming, maybe was something to do with my complaint last week but taking nothing away from him or the rest odf the staff they were 1st class.
The food was 1st class and maybe should be even more peed off that we didnt get served the previous week but all in all we will be back.
