“Awesome sight not to be missed”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

great sight worth a detour for! good access on a boardwalk will suit everyone. Biggest Kauri I have ever seen - NZ would have looked awesome with these all over the place 200 years ago

“Very Impressive”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

It was raining when we got to Tane Mahuta but it was worth the drive. The path opens up just in front of this 200 year old Kauri but walk right to the end of the path (round the corner) to see the full majesty of this tree.

“TREEmendous!”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

Never thought I would be writing a review on a tree, never mind a 5 star review. This tree is huge, no really it is massive. Biggest tree I have ever seen. Only need 10 minutes to view but when you see it you will be gob smacked. Fantastic to see they are doing all they can to keep it healthy and the other trees around are being treated well. The Maori history relating to the tree is also fascinating!

“Was this the inspiration for the trees in Avatar?”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

Few minutes walk from main road, just park and wander in, it will probably only take you 20 minutes. Definitely worth the stop to see such a large and unusual tree even if you are not Maori for who it has special significance.

“Wondrous”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

I visited the forest unfortunately only for a short time. To visit Tane Mahuta is an awe-inspiring experience. If you are interested in the natural world and cosmology of Moari culture this is a must do.
