We found this B & B when in town and couldn't find other vacant accommodation. It is a little off the main drag, is clean however very dated. The breakfast was ordinary and I was pleased we had done a little shopping so I could use my own bread etc. it consisted of raw muesli, cornflakes, home brand bread for toast with jams, tin fruit in some sort of syrup. As someone who is very conscious of my sugar levels there was nothing a diabetic could have eaten with any confidence.
Tony is very friendly if even a little too chatty, I had said I was really interested in hearing some news which he put on then proceeded to sit in the lounge with us and talk to my husband all the way through the news report!

The location is really cozy and the surroundings beautiful. The hosts Tony & Sylvia are really caring and friendly people. We felt like at home! We got loads of useful tips of things to do and see there which made our visit more enjoyable. We were sorry to leave.... A memorable vacation!

Kouto lodge was a very quiet and nice place to stay. Tony was very hospitabel and it was an excellent opportunity to learn about New-Zealand, their people and how they live. Rooms are nice, with good view on the bay. The rooms are not large but there is also a sitting room with tv available and an excellent wifi connection. Excellent continental breakfast. It is close to the Kuotu boulders, which are worth visiting and actually much more impressive in size than the more well-known boulders at Moeraki. There is no ATM in Opononi or nearby vilages, shops may help you with cash but better bring some cash. Good restaurants in the village at 5 km.

Thankyou for choosing Koutu Lodge for your Hokianga experience, we are pleased that you enjoyed the area and especially our main attraction the Koutu Boulders.
I understand your rating of our single room and if you ever visit our Bed and Breakfast again I will put you in our King / Ensuite Room with a view

This was our first experience of staying in a Bed and Breakfast, and I can only say it was a fantastic introduction. We had a very warm welcome from Tony on our arrival and a cup of tea was instantly on the table for us. The room we stayed in was very comfortable, with a fabulous view. Thank you Tony and Sylvia for giving us the perfect start to our holiday. Linda and Terry Nicholson. St. Estephe. France

We stayed here for one night after all the other reasonably priced accommodation was booked out. The owners were very nice and welcoming and you felt at home straight away. The room was comfortable (although a little dated) with a great view of the harbour and sand dunes. The breakfast the next day was fresh and light and there was nice conversation with the owners and other guests.

Room Tip: Try and get the large king room as it has the best views, an ensuite and a small balcony
