Recently stayed in the George Ferguson room upstairs in the main house. It was a nice room with a Queen bed, large jacuzzi in the room and double shower in the bathroom. It could have used another easy chair because there was only one and we are a couple (unless someone sits on the bed and theres no room for extra guests). There was a double shower but very low water pressure and it took forever to warm up! We had lunch in the pub downstairs and it was fantastic...lobster grilled cheese (with brie). Absolutely scrumptious! Staff throughout were very good. The salmon at dinner was great but the steak was undercooked. Back to the room at 1am and the music was so loud from the pub below that I could make out all the words to the songs playing! Finally quiet near 2am! Thank goodness the bed was comfy! There was a lingering odour of cooking oil in the room but stronger in the bathroom. Maybe we were over the kitchen? Breakfast in the morning was great! All in all a mixed review. It was an okay stay for one night. The only reason I am giving it very good is because of the pleasant staff and for the most part very good food. The town itself was boring! The market on the river was extremely disappointing. We were with several couples and we kind of felt misled about the supposed 'quaint' shops in the town. Had fun with friends but would not go back to Fergus for anything more than lunch!

I've stayed at the Breadalbane Inn in the past with my family and it was outstanding. The most comfortable beds I've ever slept in for a small B&B. However, this review is strickly about The Fergusson Room -- the traditional Irish Pub attached to the Inn. The food was simply outstanding! My boyfriend is a cook that has been in the business for roughly 10 years and he is by far the pickiest person I know. Being a cook they constantly pick apart the dish saying how they could have made it better and how its lacking in whatever taste. They have a dish called Highland Pie and it's Sheppard's pie with a twist. And my boyfriend devoured it -- there was not one thing he could pick out that he didn't like. He still raves about it to this day ( we stayed at a campground in St.Jacobs in August 2011). If he had it his way he would go back every weekend. As for the Alcohol -- the beer and scotch selection was outstanding!! The only little thing I have about this place was the one bartender looked and acted like she disliked tourists. She was extremely friendly to the locals but when it came to interacting with tourists she was bitter and a little snappy. The other staff were extremely friendly and happy but it seemed like she needed a happy pill to put a smile on her face for us. It's a little bit of a turn off when everything you say to this girl she *sighs* and rolls her eyes. Anyways -- all and all amazing place amazing food love the environment !!

We booked a one night dinner and stay package in one of the suites in the main inn. The package included 3 course dinner for two plus breakfast for two both a la carte. For the extra $50 the package deal was well worth it. Dinner was exceptional; we ordered from the regular menu with no restrictions and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The food outshone the service, although the server was very friendly. The restaurant carried a good selection of Ontario wines.

Our room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. The double shower and jacuzzi tub were both appreciated and quite romantic. The rooms in the main inn are not especially large but the space is well laid out. The lack of desk or workspace would be a problem for a business traveller or someone staying longer than one or two nights. The gas fireplace is a nice touch for cooler evenings. Our room looked nicer when we arrived than what we were expecting from the website photos.

The rooms in the carriage house are larger, but it's a seperate building with exterior access only and some windows overlook the main parking area. Privacy may be somewhat less than suites in the main inn.

My mom and I stayed at the Inn from one night while we were visiting friends in the area. When we got into the room, we found that the sheets had not been changed. We tried calling down to the front desk, but the phone was not working. We walked from the guest house all the way over to the main hotel, but couldn't find anyone to help us, they were too busy tending to the restaurant/pub. After a thirty minute wait, we finally found someone to help us. The woman told us that she couldn't do anything about it because their cleaning staff had left and she couldn't change the sheets herself. She said she'd try calling the manager. After another twenty minutes, the same women told us that the manager was unavailable and for us to try again later. At this point, we were fed up and tired from our drive. We decided to just leave and drove to a hotel in Guelph. I tried calling the next day; they told me that they would charge us for the room because we had reserved it and they couldn't rent it out (can you believe this!). I saw the changes come through on my Visa a few weeks later. I'm still fighting it...

The two night package deal we took was all that we expected, and to some degree, more. This was intended in part as a surprise for my wife's 'significant birthday' celebration. Part surprise because she was totally surprised by the presence of our three children and their spouses for dinner on the second evening.

Both the dinner and two included breakfasts were remarkably good. I even tried Haggis for the first time in my life! For the dinner, we were the only guests that evening and our waiter was top-notch. We found the rest of the staff friendly and helpful too, at all times.

Since we were staying two nights, we were able to sample the Pub next door, and the food here was just as well served and delicious - go for the fish and chips - wonderful! And they pour a full, traditional pint of Guinness in the recommended 4 minute time-frame!

The room we had was the original bedroom at the front of the house. Generally it was good - the bed was super comfortable, and the gas fire was a nice touch. I think we would have liked the next room to ours that much more though, peeking in when being cleaned. But our only complaint was that the wicker chairs were not at all comfortable, and we spent some considerable time in our room, reading, etc. Noise was hardly an issue, even though we were overlooking the main street, and there were no bad smells that other reviewers seem to have experienced.

We have been back to the pub on two occasions since staying at this Inn a year ago, and we will continue to do so whenever in the area. We might even spring for another stay, and do the same thing again, but next time the kids can pay for their own dinners! We will be back again if possible, and we do definitely recommend this establishment to our friends.

My husband and I were really looking forward to our mid week getaway. We had planned it for a few weeks and even took the time to drive to the Inn. We thought we knew what we were getting into.

The good points:
Liked location - went to walk & visit local shops (Elora & Fergus)
Breakfast was awesome - no denying the value you there
Carriage rooms spacious (Inn rooms smaller)

Back points:
Wireless internet access NOT at all reliable
TV's Old and very small in many rooms
Food in Inn average - not first class / fine dining material

Problems:
Room booked had a gas leak to gas fireplace. Fireplace was the only source of heat. Management staff when showing us the room COMPLETELY ignored the smell and expected us to love the room. When mentioned the smell and indicated we could not start in the room - management was a bit annoyed with us. This was the start of what was to be a great get-a-way. It took 1/2 to find another room - bumping last guest booked out of theirs. No internet - bathroom robes were not put in our room either night.

The room and service was everything that we thought that it would be. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. All the staff were very friendly and most accommodating. The young lady that took us to our room was very knowledgable about the history of the Inn and had some very interesting stories about the Inn. Our full dinner was included with the cost of our stay, and it was delcious. The chef has a flair for presentation of food and meal was beyond anything that we have had elsewhere. Breakfast was also included in our stay. We were surprised that we had a full breakfast. The perfect way to start our day and to end our stay. We look forward to our return to The Breadalbane Inn and would highly recommed it all our friends, so much so that they will be getting gift certificates for Christmas presents.
