We had Mums 80th at The Dolphin with a small family gathering of 12 for a formal sit down celebration in the restaurant, consisting of three courses. We all met up in the lounge for a drink and the staff just bent over backwards to accommodate us as one guest was in a wheel chair which posed no problem at all and I was able to run a tab at the bar and add it on to the lunch. We had organised our own Birthday Cake which we snuck into the kitchen and the waitress happily lit the candles and brought it through at the end of the meal with the coffees.
The food was absolutley outstanding (all the crab and fish dishes being fresh, cooked to perfection and so flavoursome) with incredibly generous portions but served in seperate dishes so as not to over phase! Simply ideal for the more elderly of the party with small appetites. The orders were all taken at the table and everyone got just what they asked for with no mistakes and all the food came out together, no easy ask but one The Dolphin perfected. I cannot praise the staff highly enough they were very attentive without being the slightest bit intrusive and always happy to oblige. Even sharing a desert or having just 2 starters posed no problem whatsoever. We over ran long past lunch time and when I appologised for keeping them got told it was no problem at all and to take just as long as we wanted. Could not have asked for a better venue and the perfect place to celebrate which even the rain couldnt spoil.
Two of the guests were staying at The Dolphin ( we would have been except for Mums broken knee cap which ment she couldnt climb the steep stairs to the bedrooms, no lift and no ground floor rooms) and we were able to join them for a delicious breakfast every morning. Again lovely staff who made us feel so welcome and were happy to oblige our slightest whim. No fuss, no red tape just a willingness to please which I cannot thank them enough for. We also spent a couple of evenings in their public bar and got welcomed with open arms by the locals. Thanks to all for making Mums special day so memorable and so good we hope to return for Christmas!
ps be aware that there are 2 entrances, the front one ideal for wheel chairs but the back right next to their private car park, and also a bar and a lounge so if meeting up with anyone be specific! Best bit of the lot the bill at the end way under my estimated total!
