10 of us stayed here, 8 adults 2 children. Loved it! Yes, there are a lot of little things that could be improved-one of the fridges is faulty and freezes everything, only 2 showers, 1 in the ensuite and no locks on any bathroom doors. Perhaps not maintained to the highest standard and it would be nice to have tea and coffee as a little welcome gift! But it's gorgeous! Beautiful gardens, 2 huge sitting rooms and comfortable! In an amazing location, couple of minutes stroll to Beer. We had a fantastic week and would all definitely return.
We booked this property last year as a Christmas present for our children and their young families. Beautiful old house in the pretty village of Beer, BUT that is where it ends!
Although we appreciate that the property is old and creaky it is the modern features that well and truly let this property down, not to mention the lack of cleanliness.
On the day of our arrival the kitchen crockery, cutlery, glasses etc., had to be washed as they were not clean, along with the work surfaces. The oven itself and baking tins were not the cleanest either. The 'American' fridge didn't seem to get very cold and the additional fridge froze everything (not good when storing babies bottles). The dining room table looked clean but on wiping it the cloth was filthy.
The W.C's and bathrooms had hair on/in them and just didn't seem clean in general. The cold water tap in the main bathroom wasn't working and all three toilets were slow to flush. The one 'proper' shower in the property was well worn and again had to be cleaned. The towel radiator in the en-suite didn’t work properly and the window in this room wouldn’t shut, so it was a bit chilly.
One of the front upstairs windows where a child was to sleep didn't close properly and the downstairs loo lights wouldn't work, although these were rectified by the owner/caretaker. There also seems to be no hot water getting through to the downstairs cloakroom.
Carpets, rugs and settee's really needed a good clean. The banister at the top of the stairs was very wobbly and the baby gate at the top of the stairs was broken causing a hazard to our young grandchildren.
Even the beds were really uncomfortable!
Only two of the three log burners were working but nothing to say which ones, and we also thought a 'starter' pack was included but we couldn't find anything. The heating went off at approximately 9pm and did not come back on around 7.00am. At the end of October, beginning of November the property was really cold at night.
We never expect the 'Ritz' when we rent a property, but cleanliness and a comfortable bed is not a lot to ask for.
A group of 8 of us stayed for a long weekend. The location was perfect. Walking distance for beach, coastal walks etc The downstairs of the house was perfect. Warm, roomy, lovely kitchen but sadly it was let down by the upstairs. There really does need to have a lock on the only shared bathroom especially as three bedrooms share it !! Also we had real difficulty getting the key out of the lock box everytime we entered the house. Could do with replacing. Dont let this put you off - its lovely. Owners spend a little bit of money and sort out the locks!!
This house was really lovely, we stayed 7 of us for my dads 70th inc my 6 month old daughter. The house was really well equipped with highchair, toys, pushchair, outdoor furniture, washing machine etc. The kitchen was big and well equipped. The bedrooms were well kept and clean. The house is very old with beams, stone walls and creaky floorboards, but we all liked the character and was a lovely short walk to town, which was really handy. Only thing to point out is there is only one shower cubicle in the main bedroom ensuite, which also has a separate bath. The main bathroom has a showerhead over the bath. The garden was also lovely to enjoy as we had amazing weather.
Our experience of Starre House was overwhelmingly positive. It was very well presented and cleaned, with no mice! The property is large and spacious with a variety of comfortable furniture, although we believe that a new bed and mattresss in the master bedroom, and the conversion of the bath in the second bathroom to a stand-up shower (even if only through the provision of a shower stand and curtain), would be very worthwhile investments. The quality, location and history of this property makes it an outstanding holiday home - highly recommended.

NOT LIKE THE PICTURES. Very dirty, with mice too! Poor quality bedroom furniture and soft furnishings. Only got 1 towel each. Bathroom filthy! Managed to finally get £150 refund from £1800 booking. Very poor. Such a shame as great location and potential. NOT 4 star rating as per agent.
