Owner description: PECORAMA - one of East Devon's leading visitor attractions, is set on a hillside above the pictureque fishing village of Beer. It is home to the mile-long Beer Heights Light Railway with its fleet of miniature steam locomotives; the famous PECO Model Railway Exhibition featuring superbly detailed layouts in every major gauge and the PECO Millennium Celebration Garden, five stunning Garden "rooms" based on a celestial theme. Children's activity areas feature the wonderful new indoor 'Play Staion' plus an extensive range of outdoor play equipment, whilst grown-ups can try their skill and stamina on the Crazy Golf course and Fitness Trail. There is a varied programme of entertainment throughout the summer season, including children's shows featuring jesters, clowns and magicians performing under cover of our own big top, the PECO Marquee. The displayed opening times are for the summer season only (Easter to October). During our low season, the Beer Heights Light Railway and Gardens close but the Model Railway Exhibition & Shop, Garden Room Restaurant and Play Station Soft Play area remain open. Please see our website for these facilities’ winter opening hours.

We went there in mid September with a friend and her 4 year old son. We were all very impressed with the various model railway layouts, with differnt scales of track and trains and different scenery options. A good place to get ideas for a home layout....
The entrance price includes one ride on the outdoor narrow guage railway which has a good long route through the grounds and through a tunnel into an area known as Wildway Park. Additional rides can be purchased. The grounds overall are well landscaped and with many areas of beautiful flowers. The main complex has attractive walks through well maintained grounds, an aviary, an outdoor childrens play area and an indoor play area under construction (due to be opened in Autumn 2013).
There is a self-service restaurant serving decent food at reasonable prices.
With much outdoor activity, it's worth choosing a dry day for the visit.

We arrived on a day with rain forecast, biut it came a bit quicker than we anticipated so having purchased tickets in the dry by the time we got to the gardens it was raining! We still managed a look round but as we were there particularly for the train ride it wasn't all bad. The train is delightful and the views would be amazing on a nice day. Recommended (but pick a dry day!)

We visited with our 23 month old daughter and have to say it was a great half day for us all. The model railway exhibits were enjoyed for all the button pressing by my daughter, the gardens although small were very nice. We really liked the food though that childrens sandwiches are available and made on site.

Our daughter loved the train ride and the slides and swings, etc even more. When the indoor play area is finished it will help add more for wet days. We would happily go back.

Where can you take the kids for several hours of reasonably priced fun activity? - Pecorama at Beer is the place to go. The exhibition of model railways is absorbing, the Beer Heights Light Railway is a well thought-out ride that makes the most of a relatively small area with some great scenery, and the play/activity areas are ideal for burning off all that boundless energy afterwards.

Mums and dads may find that they don't have too much energy left to burn, as the whole site is set into an attractive hillside and so the terrain is a bit challenging if you are in charge of a push chair (I was pushing an adult wheelchair and so well exercised). The facilities are excellent with picnic areas, plenty of good loos, and best of all the Garden Restaurant where you can have a good variety of meals at sensible prices (I had a super all-day breakfast) in pleasant surroundings and served by friendly staff.

All in all, it's a first-class day out.

The layouts are a bit boring and small but if you want to see examples of layouts that you can do your self this is a great place to start tells you the space that the layout is made for and i didn't get to go on the ride but it goes around all of the gardens that looked beautiful. The shop was nicely priced but for a foreigner (im from Australia) a bit plane because they only had british trains.
