We were looking for somewhere to eat and this place was very busy, which means the locals use it, always a good sign. We were not disappointed.
We were found a table in the bar area, then we placed our order at the bar. My husband asked for a recommendation on a not too dry red wine and was directed to one of the cheaper bottles on the menu and offered samples to try to see their suitability.
The food was fantastic. The cheesey garlic bread is highly recommended as it was a large doorstep of a loaf smothered in cheese and garlic and between us more than enough. I had the haddock which covered one end of the plate to the other, the light crispy batter encasing light freshly caught fish with chunky chips and the best mushy peas I've had in a long time. My husband had the sirloin steak which looked a little thin but had a wonderful flavour. We couldn't make the desserts as we were too full but they seemed to have a reasonable selection. The staff were efficient and helpful even bringing a jug of ice water to the table as well as the wine. Will return if we visit the area again.

When we arrived the restaurant was half empty but we wern't told it had been fully booked - highly unlikely on a Monday night in October. We had an 89 year old elderly lady with us. We were then shunted off to the lounge bar which was noisy and with sticky tables that hadn't appeared to have been washed properly for some time. The young surly waitress told us that we had to order wine from the bar and pre-pay. We rightly queried if this was a restaurant and it was normal practice to pay after a meal. We were then curtly told we needed to go to the half-empty restaurant to place an order. We are locals and were looking forward to adding this to our list of local restaurants. Please folks don't bother. Can't comment on the food, never got that far. If a video was to be made about how not to treat customers this would win an Olympic Gold Medal. Never again. Anchor Inn your hospitality as faciliated through your rude, inexperienced head waitress is an absolute disgrace. Its your business and these are not comments made lightly or with any kind of agenda.

Great fresh seafood at reasonable prices, very good service, nice selection of beers. Well worth a stop for lunch.

Enjoyed a Friday lunch here after a long walk over the cliffs from Branscombe. Lovely welcome and service, dog friendly, delicious fresh fish. Although very busy, food arrived fairly quickly. Nice, relaxed atmosphere - highly recommended.

We visited on Sunday Lunchtime but did not want a roast. Managed to get a table in the restaurant ( as opposed to the pub bar). We had the crab pots to start. Small pots of fresh crab served with a small salad and crusty brown bread. We had the sole to follow which was served in a creamy mussel sauce it came with new potatoes and asparagus. It was very good indeed. The Fish & chips looked very good with huge protions of Fish. Will certainly visit again
