Located above the shingle beach where the fishing boats are drawn up, the inn has a superb location with the sound of the waves crashing on to the shore permeating the bedroom windows. The managers, Phil and Jan, are friendly and competent and so are their staff. The rooms are comfortable, especially the beds which made getting up in time for the first rate breakfast rather difficult. The local beer, Otter, served i'n the snug bar with it's log fire, is a CAMRA delight with a distinctly 'hoppy' flavour. We ate i'n the restaurant every evening after we discovered on the first night what good food at excellent value was offered. Parking can be a bit of a problem but Phil has some options at his disposal if asked. As you can see from the above, we enjoyed our stay enormously.

I stayed at the Anchor in October with my wife as part of a 'Devon Cornwall' break. This was our second visit and we were not dissapointed. The room was excellent. Large, clean, very good shower, comfortable with wonderful sea view. (Though rooms do seem to vary) As a previous reviewer said, If it was any closer to the sea it would be in it. It really is 'a stones throw from the sea.'

The public areas of the Inn are rather 'tired' and in need of redecoration but our room was fine. Remenber this is a an 'Inn' not a starred hotel. Food was what you would expect from a pub, good but not imaginitive.

Staff were friendly but we did have to chase them to pay bills, book for dinner etc. Breafast was excellent but service was rather slow..

Biggest problem is parking. We were lucky but there is no car park and the public one is rather a long way when you realise that you have left somthing in the car. I shoud imagine this would be a greater problem in the summer.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and will definitely be going back.

Stayed here in September and can only say it was brilliant, the room was lovely and comfortable, very clean as was the bathroom and we had great views. The breakfast was lovely with plenty to choose from and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The beer garden was fantastic with brilliant views and the hotel is right on the coastal path so ideal for walkers. Seaton is a 30 minute walk along the coast and Branscombe an hour in the opposite direction, both lovley walks. Although there is no onsite parking there is a central village car park minutes away. I would definately recommend the Anchor Inn to others and will be returning myself in the future.

Had a lunch there on a rainy August day with my husband and our 3 young children. We arrived at 11h50 already ravenous and were promptly showed to a table. Arriving this early was perhaps a very good bet as we ordered and the kitchen opened at 12h so were served very promptly. The portions are enormous and the food very tasty. We ordered a selection of starters so that the kids could sample whitebait, squid etc. The harbour and beach of Beer itself are very pretty.

The Anchor Inn at Beer is so close to the sea that any closer it would be in it! The old capstan used to haul boats out of the sea is just in front of the Hotel and the sound of the waves lapping on the shingle shore is a gentle backdrop to all conversations.

It is right on the South West costal pathh and is ideal for walkers of all abilities as there is an excellent bus service back in to Beer going from Poole to Exeter,m si anything from a short amble into Seaton to something more stenuous is possible.

The service of this hotel is excellent with staff who seem to be here for a a long period rather than just passing through. It has the charm and ambience of a family run pub hotel although it is part of Greene King's Old English Inns chain. In keeping with that the food here does vary from the usual Pub fayre encountered at other pubs inthe chain. It uses locally sourced Devon and Dorset fish as well as other more exotic fish as part of its menu

The bar is lively without the aid of piped music and there is always a good mix of visitors and locals service inthe bar is prompt and the wine list is excellent.
