The Anchor Inn is without a doubt the best place to stay or eat in Beer. The location overlooking the beach, the delicious food and friendly staff all deserve five stars. The pub is lovely and cosy with log fires, unobtrusive music and really efficient and friendly staff, the breakfast was superb and our evening meal was homemade and really good value. On our second night we chose to try a different restaurant in Beer, and ended up wishing we had stayed in the Anchor as their food and service was far superior to that which we experienced up the road.
The room itself was fine if a little small, (we had room 4 on the top floor) but what made it really special was the spectacular view of the beach, I think most of the rooms have similar views, but I would recommend you go for the top floor if you have a choice. We were really happy with the room as we had booked through a cheap deal, however I am not sure it is worth the high season rate they normally charge. It also had an unpleasant, hospital like smell which I think came from the cleaning products used which only dispersed after leaving the window open for a whole day.
I would definitely recommend the Anchor Inn for a short stay, There are a couple of reasons I am not giving it five stars . It doesn't have any parking so you will have to get up at 8am to put money in the meter at the public car park and the pub does not have any good real ales however the wine was excellent and really good value.
