Anchor Inn Beer
Ranked #6 of 9 Beer B&B and Inns

We decided to go away for a few days & found the Anchor listed with Old English Inns. We have used these several times before & have never had a bad place to stay. To say I was not disappointed, is an understatement. The pub is totally lovely with all the things they promise such as open log fires, friendly staff & darn good food, (& beer for those of you who enjoy a good pint!). Beer itself is the smallest most picturesque beautiful small town / village with a few shops, though all excellent & no chain shops. It boasts 2 beautiful galleries & even the pharmacy was 'local'. Fresh fish was arriving every morning as well, & opening the bedroom window 1st thing was totally beautiful to see the sun rising and the remaining fishing boats sitting perched on the beach. What made it even more special was that we had 3 days of almost un-interrupted sunshine! Don't be put off going later in the year, it's worth it. I don't want to recommend this place as I want to keep it as a selfish secret all to myself, but go on, go. You know you want to and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Room Tip: Some rooms have 'seperate' bathrooms close bye, but I'm OK with that. They have seperate...

Had a 2 night break here. The website is easy to book through and the hotel description is accurate. On arrival the requested champagne, chocolates & flowers were in the room (anniversary - big Brownie points bonus). We had the Jack Ratenbury Room on the third floor - spacious room; comfortable big double bed; nice bathroom usual fittings. Fabulous view of the beach, sea and fishing boats. This is quite an old building and so several of the floors squeak and groasn a bit, but it didn't bother us at all. The gulls wake you in the morning - lovely. We had a very good dinner here the first night at a very good rate from quite an inventive menu (quite a lot of fresh fish dishes).

As other reviewers have mentioned, breakfasts are fabulous - the first day a had a beautifully cooked kipper, the second ham, cheese and eggs on ciabatta.

All-in-all a lovely stay and one we will certainly repeat.

Room Tip: Best views on the third floor - but the stairs are quite narrow and steep (no lift)

We stayed here last week for four nights and it was just perfect, the room was lovely, very, very clean and very, very comfortable. The pub had a really nice atmosphere and was extremely welcoming, the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was very good too and the Breakfasts, well, they were just that little bit different to what we usually get when we go away, it was all good. We thought the parking may be a problem, as the pub does not have dedicated parking, but it was quite easily dealt with.

Had a weekend here with friends. Hotel is clean and comfortable, the staff are brilliant, always cheerful, even when the place was suddenly packed out due to torrential rain. Breakfast very good indeed, evening meals are good too, though I would recommend the Barrel of Beer for your evening meaL. Anyway, nice hotel in a great position.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a sea view

My wife and i have just spent a week in Beer at a cottage near the Anchor. We had meals at the Anchor three times during the week and had drinks there every evening. The menu had a really good choice and the food was suberb. The staff from the bar to the restaurant are really helpful and friendly. The cliff top garden is a real credit to them, the landlord is out there every morning 7am onwards cleaning the tables checking the seats etc. A great team, they deserve all the buiness they get, well worth a visit.

If you check my reviews out - you will see I am overly critical usually of places to eat - havent stayed overnight at the anchor - but eaten here a few times recently - and it says a lot for the place that I chose to drive from torquay to Beer to have my lunch in the sun when there is so much choice far nearer to me - Absolutely amazing pub lunches - had really nice fresh mackerell last time with some great garlic butter...lovely spot in the sun - and my dog is very happy in beer garden too ! Thanks for the good work - will keep coming back
