“A beautiful house and a lovely place to stay.”

My mum booked this B&B for a two night break for my 30th birthday and it was perfect. I have stayed in loads of B&Bs as I travel for work and this one is one of the best. The service was excellent and felt very personal, Chris and Enid were welcoming and very helpful. The room was well decorated and meticulously clean and had lovely views over the beautiful garden. I would recommend this to anyone who is visiting the sites in the area (especially Longleat which is 5 minutes away) and wants a peaceful retreat.

My sister and I based ourselves at Crockerton House for an 'away weekend' visiting Stourhead Gardens. We felt immediately welcome and were offered a wonderful cream tea in the lovely garden on arrival, while a happy cat purred at our feet. Our room was very comfortable and tastefully furnished, with a big sitting area to relax in and a generous en-suite bathroom equipped with everything needed including soft towelling bathrobes. A tea tray with a teapot and several choices of tea, and real milk in a small flask - heaven! Breakfasts at the big dining table with other guests were excellent, with everything freshly cooked and made on the spot, lots of fresh beries and juice (home-made apple, too) and good coffee. Our hosts were really helpful with recommendations for local places to eat - both those we tried were very good - and with maps and tips for finding our way about. Highly recommended - hope to visit again one day.

Room Tip: We had the Silk Room, with a lovely garden view.

I chose Crockerton House purely by chance - we were visiting Longleat House & Safari Park and it was one of the featured local B&B's on the accomodations links on the Longleat web site.
Ideally suited for Longleat, being only 10 minutes or so away from the Park, but also fairly centrally located for other sight-seeing activities (Bath, Salisbury, Stonehenge, etc).

A property of great character (originally built back in the 1660's), it has been very thoughtfully renovated & modernised, and situated in its own extensive grounds in the small but idyllic village of Crockerton.

Service & hospitality were excellent from the word go; we felt totally relaxed and "at home" straight away. The room (we stayed in the Officer's Room) was excellently prepared and presented, and yet still displayed some of the "old world" charms that befit a property of it's age. The room included a small but adequate freeview flat screen TV, and Tea/coffee making facilities (fresh-ground coffeee, not instant!!), with fresh milk.
The separate but private bathroom was of very high standard indeed, and fully supplied with towels, bathrobes and toiletries for two people.

Best Bits:- Being small (there are only 3 guest rooms), you get that extra personal care and attention. It's situated off the main "A"-routes - so the evenings/nights are not disturbed by traffic thundering by, nor by noisy neighbours!! Breakfast is cooked to order and features home-baked bread/toast and home-made jams & marmalades to die for!!

Worst Bits:- (I'll be blowed if I can think of anything).

For a small and privately-run B&B, it surpasses many of the 3- & 4-star hotels that I have stayed in over many years of travelling around the UK & Europe.

Room Tip: The Heytesbury Suite and Silk Room offer en-suite facilities and views.

Crockerton House is a beautiful historic house.
We stayed 2 nights in the Silk room. Huge room with sitting area, very good bed, lovely colour scheme and furniture; nice view of the lovely garden. Everything very clean and small items like coffee/tea, fruit, drinking water, magazines were provided for in the room.
Christopher is a charming host, very helpful with luggage and everything you might need or want to find out. Enid does a wonderful organic breakfast, though for some it might not be plentiful enough.
A small remark: on one evening and night there was some disturbing noise in the room above, maybe this was when the owners children were in the house. A pity, for the other night it was very peaceful.
All in all very lovely stay!

Accommodation: We had the Officer's Room. Ample space, very comfortable bed. Only drawback was no en suite. Bathroom and toilet just along the landing. Other rooms have en-suite so would prefer that next time. Lovely period furniture etc. which gave us a feel of what the house was like over the years. Building just off main road but setting is very quiet. We had sound sleep.

Food: Great cooked breakfast. Fresh apple juice from the trees in the grounds!

Hosts: Chris and Enid are lovely people. Very nice people and very helpful with local knowledge etc. Made us feel very welcomed and comfortable.

Max the Cat: a friend for life. Greets you in the garden morning and night. Doesn't talk much but you know he'd have a lot to say if he did.

Tip: if you use a SatNav to find it, it'll take you to a point on a road a little further down and off the main road. Guess this is how it works in small places. Quick call to Chris and we backtracked the hundred yards or so.

The main reason for our trip was to visit Longleat Safari Park, which lead us to Crockerton House as it was 10 minutes away. Crockerton House is set in easy reach of major places to visit i.e Bath but still set in the Wiltshire countryside. The hosts made you at home as soon as we arrived, offering help and advice as to places to eat and visit. The room it self was spacious, very clean and comfortable. This is the ideal place for couples who are looking for a peacful break but in easy reach of places to visit. The private gardens are lovely and they even have a cat called max that comes to greet you everytime you venture out!. Overall excellent hosts, accomendation, .location & food couldnt be better. We will certainly be returning in the future. Lee & Tessa
