“good choice”
Reviewed January 17, 2013

Although i spend a 10 days holiday at the Santa marina Beach hotel,i never felt bored.
the hotel is located on a beatiful beach, while the good service and the smiling staff are making every time there more than excellent.
The hotel animation team was also very proffessional as me and my boyfriend enjoyed the fitness sessions every morning.
it is a good choice.

Room Tip: beach front.

The hotel is based on a very privileged location.
It is stretched along a beautiful golden beach and it is close o he beautiful city of Chania.
The staff is very service oriented, very helpful and kind .
Rooms at the pool side building where we stayed are comfortable and elegant.
We really enjoyed lunch at the a la carte restaurant while prices are rather low.
In general he hotel has been a great value for money and it is worth staying there and enjoy a relaxing holiday.

Stayed for a week all inclusive at the end of Oct, beginning of Nov. The weather made the holiday better, it never dropped below 22 degrees.

As for the hotel, it was just out of the recognised season and was nice and quiet. The reception and checking in was easy, informed that there was no charge for sunbeds as out of season, bonus!! Room overlooked the pool, was small but cleaned every day and we didn't spend that much time there anyway. Clean towels each day too. Beach towels are free from reception with a 10 euro deposit. The restaurant and bar back straight onto the beach and both have outdoor areas overlooking the beach. The option to eat out each mealtime was always there. As for the food, I have had better, that's why I've only given 4 stars. Great salads, main courses were good, really varied, catered for all tastes. If you only like English food this is not for you. Food was either Greek or European tastes. Breakfast was also ok, plenty of fresh baked bread, enough items for English tastes, plenty for continental tastes. Negatives...coffe on a morning was awful and the so was the juice. Such small things that spoil your morning!!! Also, mid day and evening meals, the sweet course options were very limited, choice of cake and ice
Cream, same everyday. On the whole, food was ok, but as said, have had much better all inclusive.

All the staff were fantastic, very friendly and helpful.

If you are visiting soon be aware that the local area is really really quiet at this time of year. Most shops, restaurants and hotels are closed, if you like it quiet then fine, but the place did lack atmosphere because of this.

The beach was fantastic, lots of stray cats mind, but unless you feed them they leave you be and are quiet amusing.

I would visit again if the price was right, met some lovely people and have great memories, enjoy!!

We stayed in the hotel for 7 days from 9th to 16th October. I can only echo what many have said on here about the hotel, the staff are as good as we've experienced anywhere, the rooms and bathroom, though small, are perfectly fine for a holiday. The food was very good although I can't understand why warm/hot food has to be served onto cold plates.
We stayed in a room facing the sea, room 209, and it was lovely to wake to great views and the sound of the sea breaking on the beautiful sandy beach.
Complaints - very few, the cold plates at dinner, the constant "you want massage/watch/tablecloth etc" on the beach (although as a public beach this is not the hotel's fault) and the charging to use the hotel's own sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach.
All in all we enjoyed the holiday and would return.

Room Tip: Pay for a sea view room on one of the upper floors.

Before the arrival my expectations were rather low, mainly because we had booked a different hotel which unfortunately had to close for the season a week before our arrival.
Once we were in, it took barely a few moments to realize that my scepticism had no grounds.
Our room was compact yet with all it needed to have, including the beautiful sea view! (We stayed in the part facing the sea on the secong floor. There is 2nd part of the hotel across the street with the swimming pool, bar, tennis table, gym, etc, one minute convenient, safe walk trough the underground tunnel).
We booked with breakfast buffet only, since we wanted to dine independently and investigate the food at local restaurants, but after 4 days of disapointing experience we upgraded to all inclusive and never regreted! Always a nice selection of foods for every taste and shape :-)
The beach was amazing, one of very many awarded Blue Flag in Greece, all for a reason.
Water still warm and pleasant despite the time of the year, although this cannot be guaranteed every year during the same period of year :-)
I see some previous guests mentioned the hardness of beds, this is obviously a matter of taste, but myself I'd rather complain if they were too soft.

Overall a great stay and would definitely recommend to others!

Got back yesterday after 7 night stay, firstly the room, very small and overlooking the road, a upgrade was 14 euros more a night to overlook the beach, however the amount of time spent in the room it wasnt a major problem.
The food was a level better than i expected, plenty to choose from, although I cannot stomach cold fried eggs in the morning, most of the food was luke warm although I did enjoy 90% of it.
The above are the only negatives regarding this hotel, the staff were suberb and nothing was too much trouble, the beach in front of the hotel and the neighbouring hotels is lovely and sandy, beds are 2.50 euros a day, the only downside is the constant asking if you want a "massage" from the Chinese? women who patrol the beach, there are also sellers of watches, pictures etc which once you have said "No" they leave you.

The beaches width on the photos are deceiving its a lot smaller than the photos would have you believe, but still beautiful. Paddle to knee deep and you can see the fish swimming below you. Many families had toddlers with them and the sea was calm enough for the toddlers to paddle and the parents to take them out on air rings etc.

Overall a pleasing 1st trip to Crete and would stay again at Santa Marina Beach Hotel

My husband and I were referred to this hotel from their Ierapetra property (Almyra) which left much to be desired. Fortunately Santa Marina Beach Hotel was well worth the visit. We stayed on the pool side in a maisonetta which was very comfortable. There is a tunnel that connects to the lobby so that you do not have to cross the street, it's quite convenient esp. with children. The staff provided superior service and it was very hospitable and accomodating to our little boy. The setting is quite nice and has a beautiful courtyard where you can drink a cafe and enjoy the view of the water. My rating was 4 rather than 5 due to the furniture in the lobby which is quite outdated and the interior dining area which needs an upgrade. Overall the hotel provided a great experience and was very accommodating to our son, which is what mattered most.

Room Tip: Try to book on the beach side on the upper floors. The lower floors look out to building equipment...
