“Villa Thodorou appartments”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

My wife and I have just spent 14 nights at the Villa Thodorou in Crete.
We have visited the Greek islands twelve times over the past twenty years, and have experienced a range of studio apartments, some good and some not so good. We both agree that the apartments we had in the Villa Thodorou are by far the best we have stayed in.
The studio apartment we had was a top floor corner one. It had two balconies’ that provided a cool breeze with both doors opened. It was spacious with plenty of draw and wardrobe space. The shower worked perfectly, not something you always find in Greece, and the apartment was cleaned every day.
The air conditioning was a reasonable rate and worked perfectly.
The apartments are only two minutes’ walk from a large sandy beach that can get a bit noisy towards the end of the afternoon. But if you use the Villas own sunbeds (blue ones) at a very reasonable 5 euros per day for two beds and a shade, and avoid the “free” orange ones, you will enjoy more space and be removed from most of the action.
The owners are very friendly and helpful; one of the gentlemen owners came to wish us well and thanked us all personally when the time came to leave.
I would heartily recommend this accommodation and resort for your next Greek island holiday.

Room Tip: See if you can get a corner room.Preferably on the top floor

We were a family in September 2012. Great time to visit Crete due to the temperatures prevailing in the island in July and August. We had temperatures of 27-32 degrees Celsius, and the temperature was just right to be refreshing.
We have an apartment that seems to be the best in the whole at the ground floor, next to the pool, facing the pool and the ocean with two terraces and a large balcony with table and chairs. Rooms are decent. Furniture solid, except for couch (2 pcs) in a large living room. The cleaning lady cleaned regularly - every day. Linens are changed only once in the 11 days that we spent in the apartment (we hooked up two Saturdays might be two times and, though I doubt it)
The owners - the brothers act as a hothead, but we have gained that impression, because they were correct in conversation when we spoke to them.
Swimming pool, unfortunately did not have a purpose. Located between the two wings of the hotel the sun had just about noon, when the terrible burns, but the water was relatively cool. However, it could be used a few hours at the pool.
In front of the beach is a grassy field, and then finds their sandwich bar. And immediately after that stretches beach.
The beach is great. Powdery sand. The beach offers miles of left and right - perfect for a morning or early evening stroll. Or even running. The water is beautiful, clean.
Umbrellas are paid 5 euros (2 beach chairs and umbrella) no matter what you are guests of the hotel. I'm a little bothered that, but at the very least I could put asure to sand and umbrella and go buy a cheap (but what is). The first and last day we get free beach chairs from the owner (nice).
Across the street there is a small shop, and there are a couple of major stores. To more severe supermarket still has to go to Chania.
City transportation goes regularly and often, and while our guide claimed that the bus can not buy tickets from the driver this is not true. In Crete should be seen as much, but at least the old town of Chania with the marina reveals the magic of the Mediterranean.
In any case, the price / quality ratio this aparthotel deserves a lot of high scores, but do not expect too much.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor, facing the beach, possibly room on the floor above them.

The owner is disgrace for the Greek people. I saw him today shouting, extremely loud to a tourist from Russia, that he could understand what was happening. The owner of the hotel was telling him in Greek, to wash his feet before go to the room (there was no sing) and he couldn't understand so he just tried to continue to go to his room. Than the owner almost starting a fight, was telling him very bad things in Greek and forced him to wash his feet by pointing his feet and than the shower and shouting like crazy. When the tourist finished washing his feet, the owner looked at him face to face and said in English exactly: " I am the boss here".
The hotel is ok but you can see that the "boss" is not doing his job properly and has left the facilities without proper service.

Clean and basic, but for a 'budget' hotel it was absoulutely ideal. Good shower, 1 min walk to the great beach, good little beach bar that made a great Cretan cracker salad and served ice-cold beers. Swimming pool is small but very clean and nice and quiet.

Supermarket over the road was well stocked, with fresh bread and fruit every morning, ideal for lunch prep then hitting the beach all day. Only downsides were no kettle in the room and the mattress was a bit firm (but each to their own) and an extra pillow may be needed for some. Other than that, it's highly recommended for the budget conscious traveller...

There is two studios under the name Thodorou, one closer to the road, one closer to the sea. We stayed in one closer to the sea, and it was a little bit nightmare-ish. It is situated between biggest beach bar on one side, and night club on other side. If you want to learn all Pitbull songs, this is the place to go :) Beaches are overcrowded with people pracitcly stepping over each other, so if you into partying, this is good place for you. Owners of the Villa, two brothers are some of the most unpleasant people I met in traveling through Greece, all in all it was bad experience, except for Chania, which is nice city.

We stayed at studio Thodorou (Agia Marina) during the 1st 2 weeks in June 2010 , the location of these apartments is great, about 40 meters from (very nice white sandy) beach, 100 meters from tavernas, shop & bars. The apartments are quite spacious, as we had a 2 bed apartment with its own private balcony. The pool was small but clean.
There are some great restaurants in Agia Marina, Platanias or Chania.
On first impression the building is typical of a Greek apartment block and is well maintained. Our room was on the 2nd floor, had a seaview. Although the rooms were cleaned. This place is good for couples, families with kids.. I can only recommend.
