If you are nearby, do not miss the Horseback Riding opportunity at Vista Los Suenos.

The program is well managed and well staffed; the horses are top quality, safety is an obvious priority, the scenery is amazing; the trails are interesting and fun; and the "break" at a hidden waterfall makes you feel you've really experienced something special.

The kids have already made me promise that that next trip we'll do the horseback riding before the Zipline, and they loved the Los Suenos Zipline too.

Our guide, Eli, was awesome! He was very knowledgeable of the entire rainforest environment, how to work with visitors to keep them entertained and interested, and how to manage the horses. I highly recommend him!

Pros and Cons concerning the excursion….

This was my first time on a horse. I don’t really recommend it if you are the least bit faint of heart! There were some very steep areas the horses had to climb (keep in mind, what goes up…must come down). With no experience, I was a little worried about how to handle the horse. Eli and his partner told us how to handle them, it was still a little worrisome though. The horses seemed to know exactly what to do, so it wasn’t too bad.

When we arrived near the waterfall, we dismounted the horses and began our journey further into the rainforest. If you do not like steep hikes, don’t take this excursion! If you don’t mind a little hefty exercise, you will do fine. Remember…no pain, no gain! This part of the adventure requires you to be in decent physical shape, as you will be descending some very steep and slippery terrain ( then you get the pleasure of climbing back up!) Once there, the waterfall and the surroundings are absolutely breathtaking! It is so peaceful; it left me feeling as if I were in my own little oasis!

What to bring, etc………

Bring your camera of course! You may also want to bring a towel as well. They do encourage you to pack as light as possible, so there is no undue strain on the horses. We wore our swimsuits under our clothes, so we didn’t have to worry about carrying any extra bulk. There is no need to pack water and snacks, etc. We were provided with water and fresh fruit at the waterfall. Make sure you spray down with some good bug spray before you begin your adventure. We did, and didn’t have any problems with bug bites! The entire excursion lasted about 3 hours.

Found myself riding a horse again for the first time in 35 year! What a delightful adventure it turned out to be. Our guide Eli was wonderful. He is interested in pursuing his education in nature and loves to share what he knows. His input made the trip all the more worthwhile. I would have liked to have had a little refresher in how to ride a horse, but the horses were so calm and easy, it didn't seem to be needed after all. If you're at all unsure of your riding skills, I would be sure to ask.
