We attended a wedding in Costa Rica back in November. We had never visited CR before, and we were a little skeptical about what to expect based upon some negative information we found on the Internet. The wedding was at another nearby resort, but we decided to stay at the Marriott. This proved to be a great choice. The facility is outstanding, the service was excellent, and the whole experience was positive. One evening we tried to find a highly rated restaurant in Jaco. We never did find it, and became frustrated to the point that we just returned to "home" at the Marriott. The dinner served in the bar at the hotel was outstanding. We did not regret our inability to find the restaurant in Jaco. We also had good food in the coffee shop and the pool bar. Any American tourist will likely be very happy and comfortable at the Marriott. (BTW- the humidity in CR in early November made Florida's climate seem dry!)

We won this trip and were offered Guanacaste and Los Suenos. We were traveling as a couple so we picked Los Suenos. We also know that there is a lot of deep sea fishing out of their Marina and several fishing shows on TV in the past came out of there, so we had some idea about it. It's a wonderful resort, yes it's out of the way from the main town, but I wouldn't want it any closer. Having been driven through Jaco, unless you are into tourist traps, being farther away from town is a good thing!

We did experience a small earthquake, which was more amusing than frightening, while sitting on the side of the pool. Just felt like sitting on a piece of wood and someone moves it back and forth and then stops. Quite a conversation starter! No damage, no tsunami warnings (of which there are signs on the beach warning of this and getting to higher ground), no issues.

The resort's rooms are very nice...we had a ocean view with the sliding doors, but no balcony, as we did this trip over the last week and they were solidly booked. We did request a higher level room which we were grateful for, even with two beds, it offered a nicer view over the trees. Only issue is that the room was a connecting and you could hear everything through it. The the hallway is also noisy with the carts and talking. Not much in the way of noise control in the doors.

The food was amazing! We ate mostly at the hotel restaurants...our favorite was the Nuevo Latino, which is quieter, inside, and we almost had the place to ourselves most of the time. Food is more artisan than the other restaurant, which is more casual dining. Both are great. The buffet breakfasts were my favorite, which I will sorely miss with all the fruit offerings and the more local flavors like quail egg and different sauces and the juices that they offered on top of the usual OJ, of which there was usually two other choices. We did catch a Wahhoo on our deep sea half day trip we did and Nuevo fixed it up for us that night. They did an incredible job and fixed half the fish filets with fruit, not quite understanding the request for the pineapple salsa they had offered the night before with our fish entrees, for our fish. So, they did it up on a platter with half a cantaloup filled with grapes and mango and other fruit and then all around the fish, was kiwi, mango, passion fruit halves, and fruit de la mere (sp?) and we had trouble finishing it but it was a beautiful arrangement. Attention to detail is what they strive for and I couldn't take the language barrier with the chef to heart after seeing the masterpiece before us!

Otherwise the trip was amazing, the grounds are great, the sushi restaurant in the Marina section, Bambu, was great, a little expensive, but fun. The biggest complaint was the open air seating section for the restaurant is a bit hot if the wind isn't blowing. They could use some fans of some sort. The rooms are nice, big bathrooms, nice comfortable beds, and friendly people. It was a great time and we will be back! My husband has a marlin and sailfish in his future!

Room Tip: Book early and ask for the balcony ocean views and a higher floor. There is entertainment on Saturd...

Los Suenos Marriott is a nice resort hotel in Herradura Costa Rica. It is part of Los Suenos community which includes a marina with additional restaurants, a small shopping area, tennis, spa and golf. The ground are beautiful and well kept. Our family was looking for a relaxing, beautiful place to stay that offered a variety of services. It was an easy place to be pampered, relax and play.We booked 3 rooms for ourselves and our married children and stayed for a week. We chose a golf package which helped make the golf and breakfast more affordable. There is a lounge, a couple of different restaurants and an extensive beautiful pool with a swim up bar. The staff was pleasant. The golf and spa were good.

The food at the hotel is a bit above average, but we really enjoyed dining at the marina restaurants which included italian and sushi. We received free breakfast buffet with our packages which was a $25/person value. We really enjoyed this each morning. There are many great choices.

The rooms are clean with a good size bathroom. The beds were comfortable. We paid a little more to get an ocean view with a balcony with chairs, side table and a small hammock on the third floor. I highly recommend the higher floors with the larger balcony. They have smaller balconys so check their website floor plans to see what you are getting. We had a beautiful view which we enjoyed often with our children. The other 2 rooms had a garden view out the front of the hotel without a balcony. It was nice but we didn't hang out in those rooms.

The pools are immaculately kept and beautiful. The beach has dark sand which was a fun change for us. We enjoyed sitting in the chairs set up on the grass and palm trees area. You could enjoy the view and sound of the ocean while relaxing. Food service was available at both locations. At times the hotel offered special prices for food or drinks. Our only negative experience occurred when we went to get 2 for 1 gelatos or banana splits. The ice cream cooler was broken and therefore, no ice-cream. It seems that they would have offered something else at a discount but this wasn't the case. Not a big deal at all but lacked a special touch that could have been easy for them to do.

Over all this hotel gave us the variety and services we wanted. We did venture out to Jaco which is a 15 minute cab rid for about $16. All 7 of us fit in their vans. Try the taco bar there. We also did the Waterfall tours which I booked myself online and is found on Tripadvisor. It was excellent. We went to Manuel Antonio which was fairly intereting with a guide. Costa Rica Driver offered us great transportation services to and from the airport. They were willing to stop at the crocodile bridge for photos and the grocery store before you enter the resort to stock up on snacks and drinks. They are also on trip advisor. I made reservations online before we traveled but also used them for an all day outing. Highly recommend them.

Room Tip: HIgh ocean view floor with walk out balcony.

Our 3 day stay at this hotel was "ok". We booked it for a full service experience having travelled for 5 days with our 3 and 8 year olds at smaller places. The facilities are nice enough though I will not call them a "Costa Rica" experience. It is a standard hotel where you could be anywhere in a relatively developed country with a nice, very large pool. We were a little put off by what we considered nickel & diming -- ie we paid a hefty rate to stay during a peak period but would be charged for wifi in the room (though public area access, while not great, was free). Also be prepared to pay extra for a taxi if ordered through the travel office on premises (which the concierge, of course, advises). We were generally put off by the concierge service -- they are open 10-4 and when I arrived at 920 to ask a question as the concierge was present, I was told to come back at 10. I also had trouble making any plans one month before our stay because the concierge never responded for over three weeks despite multiple requests. That said, we lost a pair of sunglasses and goggles and both were returned to us. Also, as in other reviews, not a great beach. It is a beautiful horse shoe shape, but the sand looks and feels like mud. In conclusion, the prices are high for Costa Rica, the experience ok and not differentiating, but you do get full service though without local character. If I were to do it over I would choose a smaller place.

Stayed at the Marriott Los Suenos a few years ago, and just getting around to writing a review. Hubby and I are platinum elite and it was low season (end of May). Upon check in, we were upgraded to a gorgeous two room/two bath suite with a huge balcony overlooking the pool. Our room was fantastic--great view, great soaking tub. Service was great, as always--we are loyal to Marriott for a reason, after all! Only caveat to staying here is that it felt rather far away from town and there wasn't much of a beach. But all in all, good stay and would stay here again!

Los Suenos Marriott is a nice resort hotel. It is part of Los Suenos community. There is a marina, shopping area, and a golf course in this community.

The hotel itself is just fine. There is a lounge, a couple of different restaurants and an extensive pool with a swim up bar. The food is average to below average, but so is most of the food in Costa Rica. The rooms are clean with a good size bathroom. However, the rooms do not have a balcony. There is a sliding door that you can open to look at the wonderful view and get some fresh air, but nowhere to sit.

The goal of this hotel is to keep the guests by the pool so the hotel can sell drinks and food. This is unfortunate. The hotel is actually built on a wonderful beach. You would not really know this by looking at any of the hotel pics. The beach is a dark sand beach. So the parts that are not wet, do become extremely hot. There are some areas with small rocks that are a little uncomfortable to walk on. But the majority of the beach is soft sand. The water is bath tub warm. It is a great swimming beach as well. The surf is minimal and there is no undertow.

About a five minute walk down the beach is Pelicano. This restaurant has great fresh seafood. There is also Puesta del Sol which serves ice cold beer.

Overall, if you are looking for a American style hotel and a nice pool vacation, you will be happy with the Marriott. If you want a beach vacation that is more authentic, I recommend staying at a condo in Jaco. Jaco has much more personality.

The lasting memory from our three-day stay at Los Suenos will be the pool of wonders! The children loved the huge, spread-out labyrinth of a pool and spend hours in it. 12-year-old and I had a blast playing pool volleyball, and 9-year-old got a kick out of eating lunch and dinner at the pool bar.

The breakfast buffet was remarkable and among the best I have had. The omelettes were outstanding, and the wide variety of breakfast food kept us satisfied for the most of the day.

Spending New Year's Eve at this resort was memorable because of the incredible and lengthy fireworks display we enjoyed from our balcony!

While the beach is gorgeous from the balcony, it is not the best for swimming or playing. We knew this ahead of time so we prevailed upon an excursion to Manual Antonio National Park for our beach time.

Rooms were great. Spacious bathrooms were wonderful for all its wide counter space. Staff were friendly and courteous. Free wifi in the lobby.
