Typical beachfront Soda but with the best food. My first visit but others in group had been here several times. They have always been pleased. I had a whole grilled red snapper. Outstanding. Others had fried whole snapper and fried calamari. Fresh salad bar but standard choices.

View of beach and surf was great. Had an unexpected guest as a gorgeous giant lizard crawled up and watched us eat. Treated later to two beautiful birds frolicking in the tree overhead. I thought they were parrots but was corrected that parrots are much smaller. These were green red and blue like in photos. Beautiful.

Great place. Plan to return before I leave Los Sueños. Lots of other interesting options on an extensive menu. VERY reasonably priced.

On the long drive we hit lunch hour near Plaza Herradura. Heading down the road to the nearby beach we saw several interesting Soda's and arrived at El Pelicano. Right on the beach, a good number of people. A simple mahi-mahi sandwich was VERY tasty and the salad bar was good too.

If you arrive by car at the beachfront near the restaurant you may encounter 'the guy with the traffic vest and the stick who will offer to watch your car for a good tip'. Having experienced this living in Brasil, my response was "why thank you" and we tipped him afterward, enjoying a relaxing lunch looking out over the bay.

While staying at Los Suenos Marriott Resort we wanted to get "off campus" and experience some local "flavor". El Pelicano was perfect. We walked there in the light and took a local cab back in the dark. It is on the beach, super simple, super local, and has the best fresh seafood possible. We split a half grilled seafood special which was more than enough for two people. It had lobster, shrimp, crab, fish, squid, octopus, clams and muscles. New found friends of ours gave their fishing charter catch of the day to the chief and El Plicano prepared their fish for them for a small fee which they enjoyed at the restaurant.

The beach at Herradura is popular with Ticos (locals) but this restaurant was mostly popular with Americans. We enjoyed the Spaghetti Frutta Mare - loaded with seafood, and the coconut shrimp while watching the sun go down. The menu was mostly Costa Rican dishes and a good introduction to real CR food. The seafood was fresh and the real deal as well. The price was very reasonable although Americans are not used to seeing the 10% tip and the 13% tourist tax in everything. Without the drinks, tax and tips we had two great entrees for under $40.
