I'm not sure I can describe how odd our stay was there...we were one of two couples there...very strange owners...it says it comes with breakfast but they said that was only continental...and that things were different because it was low season...no WIFI, no TV....which would be OK but not a lot going on at night on Easter Island...Bizarre is all I can say...oh, and did I mention the rooster crowing 3 feet away..all of the time?

Great find on Easter Island. Rooms are clean, location is right close to everything you need and the garden area is beautiful. Raul, the owner, is excellent and he makes sure you have everything you need during your stay. Don't turn down his dinner offer either, as it was one of the best tasting - and best priced - places on the island. Would definitely recommend!

We left another hotel after the first night because of a bad experience and stumbled upon Orongo on the main road at about 7pm. The 'caretaker' (for lack of a better word), Raul, welcomed us. He said he did not have a ready room but we could return tomorrow. After viewing a room, we loved it! We asked again if we could stay the night and we said we would make our own beds! He happily agreed. Raul brought us towels and a bottle of pisco con jugo. He had a drink with us and told us that we should just relax because it's our vacation. He assured he would make us breakfast each morning 'whenever' we got up, because we are on vacation! He made our trip fantastic. He was always around for whatever we needed. The rooms are great, perfect location on main road, very green island feel.

If you want to feel at home on the island, stay with Raul and his family. You won't regret it!

This is a relaxed, laid-back sort of place - but that's what you want on Easter Island!

We enjoyed staying at this fairly basic, but attractive and friendly hotel. Raul, who runs it, is laid-back to the point of horizontal, but underlying his somewhat bizarre and eccentric character is a real charm and friendliness. For example, the first night we arrived, he was simply "too tired" to do any cooking (he'd had a very busy day!), but promised us a special meal the next day - and true to his word, he produced a delicious dinner just for us (we were the only people eating in), and plied us with free wine as well!! When we came to pay, he couldn't remember what he'd said the rate would be, so we did some joint scribbled figures on the back of an envelope (literally!), and reached an amicable agreement.

Rooms are basic, but clean and reasonably comfortable. The garden is attractive, and the situation is close to the town centre.

We really enjoyed Eater Island, and this place matched the atmosphere that we liked so much. As long as you're not looking for sophistication (and if you are, what are you doing on Easter Island?), this is a great place to stay.

Alan.

We stayed here in Spring of 2009-- I'm just going over my notes from that trip and thought I'd do a review. I believe Raul was not there when we stayed, but the hostess that was there took very good care of us.

The hotel is in a fine location with a rental car company located across the street, an internet cafe only a couple doors down, and restaurants nearby. Really, everything you need is within walking distance (the island isn't that big anyway).

The breakfast was nice and the room was decent. A little smallish but not as small as European hotel rooms.

The rooms are really basic, a little old fashion, the beds have thin mattresses but the hotel is located literally 5 minutes from the "airport", you could almost walk to the airport (no need to worry about the noise, there is only one plane landing and one departing on Easter Island every day) and it is on the main road on Hanga Roa so you can walk to shops, restaurants, the bank, post office and tourist office. It is also directly across a place where you can rent bikes, jeeps and everything you need to tour the island. The garden in the hotel is really beautiful (probably better than the rooms) but I had warm water every day and dinner at the hotel twice with another couple who was staying there and it was excellent (lobster dinner for $20USD). The owner is a bit of a character, he told me only at the last minute that he does not take credit cards, so right before getting in a car to go to the airport I had to go the only available cash machine (the one at the bank was broken). I don't know how I would have done it if both were out of order. However he did manage to put me on a last minute bus-tour (all the natives on Easter Island know each other and they own all the businesses too so all they have to do is call someone). Breakfast was also simple but good and if you want to eat at the hotel, just ask the owner (I think his name is Raul) and he will cook you anything and everything you ask for at a very affordable price (provided he can find it that day at the market). I also left him some money to buy stamps for my postcards (since the post office was closed when i was there) and he did but the stamps and mailed all the postcards (nothing big but a nice gesture). If you need a basic, affordable accommodation, close to everything this is your place.

Stayed three nights and had booked on the internet after reading some reviews on trip advisor. The garden was lush, breakfast fair but the regular chef was on vacation so it wasn't open for lunch or dinner, staff appeared friendly and sought to be helpful. The room was tired with peeling wallpaper, a creaky bed and a cracked shower floor but at $60 we weren't expecting anything grand. We did lack hot water for two days. The bill came and it said $80 a night. We talked to the person in charge explaining that we had prepaid for a night at $60. Very smoothly he told us many people get confused and that was only a registration fee. He just changed the web site and we can check to verify what he is saying is true. How do you verify it if he just claimed to have changed it. He also said the price now is even higher. Then he told us that we couldn't pay by credit card even though that is how we prepaid or reserved the room. It seemed suspicious because we would have no recourse. My paperwork only claimed that I had paid through Paypal so I couldn't verify what I was sure was correct. We paid it and left it up to a lesson learned. As we were leaving another couple that we had arrived with seemed to be having a frustrated exchange also. When we got to the airport we asked the couple what had happened to them. They also were sure the hotel was $60 and had prepaid that amount. He charged them $90 a night.

We asked for a taxi at a designated time and the another couple got it but he said it would return for us and not to worry because the plane is arriving a half hour late. I checked at the airport and that information was a direct lie. The plane was there and had been on time. We could have been confused about the rate but two couples having the exact same misunderstanding seems unlikely. Be careful that you have paperwork that states the room rate and confirmation for any room you get. It doesn't feel good to have the feeling you have been duped.

As published the hotel charges $60 for booking purposes disregarding the type of room, as a precaution to avoid false reservations. The customer was confused, we explained that her room rate was $90 but she refused to accept that. Still we discounted her room paying $80/night. The rest of her comments are irrelevant and misrepresent our level of service, well recognized by 99% of client reviews.
