On our way to an Antarctic cruise we had a 3 night side trip to this wonderful island. WELL WORTH IT!

All the other reviews give the details, which are 100% correct and true so I don't need to repeat everything!

Edith and Bill are incredible. Edith's breakfasts are great and Bill's guided tours are so comprehensive.

The Tauraa Hotel is a real gem! Clean, good location within walking distance to anything you might need, friendly host and hostess. You will be taken care of from the moment you step off the plane until you're in line for your departure! Excellent (EXCELLENT!) breakfast served each morning, informative tours conducted by Bill, Edith is a charming hostess who will assist you with any needs you may have. We rented a car the second day and headed out on our own, quite a fun day. Horses everywhere, loved that! I would recommend this hotel to anyone considering a visit to the island, there absolutely couldn't be a finer place on the island. Don't even bother looking elsewhere!

Clean, comfortable lodging is provided with excellent, varied breakfasts. We were greeted by Edith and given a lei athough they may call it something else in Rapa Nui. Two full day tours with Bill followed which allowed us to see everything of interest outside the village of Hanga Roa. Another day walking to sites within the village on our own(actually we rented Bill's dune buggy)to see the museumn, cementary, church, etc. completed our stay.
Its hard for me to imagine a better guide than Bill. He knew the history, the theories, the mysteries of the island and took us inside caves and ancient village sites than may not be on everyone's agenda.

The only complaint we had was minor. We bought a Moai statue and when we left the island, airport secuity took everyone's statues from carry-on luggage and put them on the airplane's cargo area. When we picked up our statue in Santiago, it was broken. We would have liked to have known this would happen, so we could wrapped cushioning around it. But perhaps, neither Bill or Edith knew this would happen. I tend to think they didn't because they tried to be helpful in everyway.

Don't miss the Rapa Nui Cultural Ballet performed twice on Tuesdaya and Thursday nights at a near by hotel. And bring lots of money because meals are costly at the good restaurants, although excellent in every way. And most merchants charge as much as 10% additional if you use a credit card.

As perspective, this is our 1st experience with Trip Advisor – our background is extensive business travel staying at name brand hotels, shunning boutique and BB’s. Wary with our selection, it turned out to be an outstanding experience and unquestionably inline with all the favorable trip advisor reviews. Clean (spotless), no-nonsense comfortable rooms with a genuine and trusting owner, Edith and family. It’s not the Ritz, but having just left the Ritz Santiago we preferred the hospitality and simplicity of staying in a hotel most befitting the island. An undemanding and comfortable experience.

There is phone and internet access across the street. The ocean a few long blocks walk. Close to shops and places to eat, including Edith’s sisters restaurant next door (a nice place including beer, wine and bar). Hanga Roa is a fun compact island town, the restaurants we went to were amazingly good with character appropriate a remote island. Lot’s of small markets. Airport access and check in easy. Lot’s of taxis. Friendly people.

The tours by Bill were phenomenal! He is one of the most engaging and passionate individuals you will meet. To that end, our stay was a short two nights and unbeknownst to us we would miss seeing one of the islands best sites, the quarry. Bill recognized this, and took us out before dawn to climb up to the quarry, timing our ascent as the sun was rising. After the “must have seen” personalized tour he then got us back in time for breakfast and to the airport to catch our morning flight to Santiago! Bill, Edith, and family are amazing, as is the hospitality extended to their guests.

After staying at the Tauraa we can now see why unsolicited Trip Advisor reviews are written. We hope this helps others.

The hotel is modern and clean, with charming wicker furniture and small patios. Breakfasts are excellent (and unique each day), and Edith and her family are incredibly helpful in arranging for island tours and car rentals. All around highly recommended and a wonderful experience.

My husband and I stayed for 3 days, and we loved Rapa Nui and this hotel. Edith and Bill run a great hotel, and Bill's tours were interesting, informative and fun. Bill was part of the crew on the film "Rapa Nui" and has many anecdotes about the filiming of that movie, which made his tours even more interesting. Our tour group had a total of 7 people, and it was a great group of people. I think the Sept 21 posting below was by one of the members of our group (Hi Mike!).

The room was clean and comfortable, with a nice view of the ocean. The breakfasts were good, and everyone who worked there was very friendly and helpful.

We ate dinner at two good restaurants -- Te Moana and the restaurant next door to the hotel that is owned by Edith's sister. Everyone was very friendly at the restaurants, especially Edith's niece Caroline. Also, it was handy to have an internet cafe right across the street; there are several in town.

We were on the island for only 3 days, which was too short. We would like to return, and would certainly stay at this hotel again.
