Keu Henua Eco-Hostal
Reviewed December 8, 2013

Located walking distance from the main drag, this hostal is owned and operated by a lovely woman and her family. They have a beautiful garden and lovely greenhouse on property. Breakfast is plucked from the garden. The cabins are basic. Bring mosquito netting if you plan to open the windows, no screens. They will arrange any tour or rental you want, or you can walk into town to do it yourself. Don't forget they also have free airport pick-up!

I stayed nearly 3 weeks at Cabanas Keu Henua and was very happy there. The service was friendly and helpful; Tavake's English is excellent and her advice was always spot on. I appreciated the airport pickup and dropoff. My room was spacious with very comfortable beds and my own bathroom and fridge. Location is great, just a few minutes walk from downtown and Tahai which can be seen from the kitchen window. Nice garden and grounds, fully equipped kitchen. Only disappointment was that the wifi did not operate inside my room; I had to go closer to the reception office to get the signal. The place is simple, clean and unpretentious; I would recommend it.

We ended up staying here after we were let down badly by Sunset cottages, who I would strongly advise to avoid at all costs by the way. Took our money months in advance, confirmed the booking was ok when we checked 3 days prior to arrival and then by phone not even in person, at the airport we were told all our details has mysteriously vanished and there is no record of it and you are now staying somewhere else..This was made even worse by trying to make out it was somehow our fault..grrr...Anways get that off my chest!! we didnt have time to argue or an afternoon to waste so we went to Keu Henua, as Sunset had told us to. We stayed in what I assume was a family room one double and four single beds. cleanliness wise just ok, bathroom could have done with a bit more of a scrub, bed clean and comfy. There were cockroaches maybe a couple a day in varying stages of dying so I assume steps were being taken to eliminate them. Breakfast ok not too imaginitive bread, ham, cheese or advocado and fresh juice. Did a great tour through them with Cecilia who was lovely, hired scooter and atv through a company they recommended who where really good too. Elivra the owner is a nice lady even though our spanish is very limited and her english is at a similar level. Despite our initial dissapointment on arrival it was more than made up with by the experience of Easter Island, a simply amazing place.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We are a family business in Easter Island built on the values given by our ancestors: the love of Rapa Nui, the dedication to the work and pride to our roots. Our main objective is to offer to tourists a relaxing space with nature in attending to their accommodation needs, while it encourages and guides to explore the island and its most amazing places, always with caution and respect for this World Heritage of Humanity. We seek and work in environmental systems that help to protect natural heritage and reduce the cumulative impact of humans on Easter Island. We participate in, and support, sports and cultural activities in order to rescue and promote the Rapa Nui customs. In Keu Henua we work with a new concept Tourist Agritourism. The idea primarily is to provide agricultural products of ethnic Rapa Nui to our guests using the same techniques that were used by our ancestors, as are the Manavai. In the custom of the islanders agricultural products like banana tree, sweet potato and taro, among others, were passed from generation to generation. We are thrilled that today's agricultural products are without intervention and in direct line with those planted in ancient times ... more   less
