Very lovely experience, actually registered Trip Advisor because I had to give a review.

The location was central and convenient, the free wi-fi workable. The transit to and from the airport was prompt and warm. And the rooms were clean and comfortable. There is some insects such as mosquitos and ants, but I think that cannot be avoided on the island, just bring some insect repllent with you.

What truly impressed me, however, was the people and service there. Owner Sergio wasn't there, but his son and daughter-in-law were very patient and helpful. The front desk and all other staff I met were equally hospitable and cheerful. They answered many of my endless supply of questions, arranged tours and shows, and generally went out of their way to make the stay comfortable. For example, my return flight was at an awkward time of 10:30pm, they let me stay for an extended period in my room free of charge, also drove us to the airport at just the right timing.

Another plus is that since it's not that big of a hotel (30 rooms total I think), and your fellow travelers are generally flying in via the same flight. I got to meet and know many people from the airport pick-up, and they were one of the most interesting and friendly groups I've met while traveling.

The only down-side is that there weren't many options for breakfast; the food didn't change for my entire stay there. But from what I read, this is pretty much the same for every place on the island. And no one is really there for the breakfast :P

Room Tip: Look for discounts before booking.

The Tupa Hotel was warm, welcoming, and within walking distance to anywhere you needed to go in Hanga Roa. Mate u' and Elena (the son and daughter in law of the owners) were extremely hospitable, knowledgeable, and helpful. The hotel is rustic, clean, comfortable bed, and large rooms. We had an ocean view with large patio. There was not air conditioning but did have fan and large sliding doors to listen to the ocean to lull you to sleep at night. The complimentary breakfast was more than satisfying!! The dulce de leche crepes were awesome!! They offered complimentary transfers to/from the airport which was a nice bonus. Our only 'complaint' was they do not accept credit cards. The USD gets a better rate than Chilean currency! Traveler's checks were accepted.

Stayed here for a 3-night trip to Easter Island back in April. Arrived on the red-eye flight from Lima, and staff was waiting there to pick us up and transport to the hotel even at such an early hour. Got us back promptly and we settled in for a quick nap before starting our ventures.

Room was clean and comforatable. It's not a luxury accommodation, but seemed to be on-par or above average of the other hotels available on Easter Island. Hotel was in process of renovation/construction during our stay (each night a new piece of furniture/fixture would appear in the room) but did not affect our stay or rest. No air conditioning, but it isn't really necessary. A room fan is provided. No television, but then again, who comes to Easter Island to watch TV. Breakfast each morning was good and definitely helps with the expenses of food, as lunch and dinner are the only things your need to buy elsewhere. I do agree with another reviewer on here, there is a rooster lingering nearby that gets you up kind of early!

Staff and service is fantastic. Had a small problem with one of our door locks in our room, and it was promptly dealt with when brought to the attention of the staff. They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable when asked about activities, and would sit down with you to help you plan your day for as long as it took. Maps, advice, history, etc are given out if you just ask. Very easy to talk to, friendly and helpful. Bottled water and juices (I think) are available for purchase any time at the bar. Free wireless internet, but in the lobby only.

Would highly recommend the Tupa to anyone travelling to Easter Island, thank you for making our stay so pleasant and memorable!

Room Tip: Ocean View rooms appear to be newer.

Marienne and I were hosted with the spirit of Aloha from Sergio and his staff. We were warmly received at the airport and given a needed orientation upon arrival. Sergio spent time with us and gave us a lot of helpful suggestions regarding day-to-day activities, making use of our time on the wonderful island and cutting down our expenses. Our room was very clean and comfortable; the building complex and ground were presentable. Location of the hotel was a walking distance from any place of interest in town. The price (hotel rate} was just right . Breakfast was great! Mahalo nui loa to the Professor and his crew.

Room Tip: Just get any room. You don't really need a view because you're out of your room all day anyw...

Sergio and his team at Tupa Hotel were great. We were there at a quiet time and so we did miss mingling a bit with other tourists however, the location was great - less than a 10 min walk to town, 15 minutes to Museo and less than 10 minutes to Takake Vave, the place for lunch (Cebiche galour).
Our room was spacious and comfortable. We were in the new area and although Sergio isn't done yet, it is great right now and the future looks very bright.
We took a tour recommended by Sergio (Rapa Nui Tours) and it was great - other than that we hiked our way around, enjoying the environment, the local culture and the sights. We were awed and moved by the stories.

Room Tip: Quiet always but get one of the new rooms.

The hotel is not particularly exciting: it's being renovated right now, rooms are very big but spartan, the ocean view is not the best you can get on the island. However: (1) the staff is very friendly; (2) the place is clean, comfortable enough and safe; (3) Sergio, a native who run the hotel, is one of the world leading expert in Easter Island history and archeology. Sergio is also very helpful: he picked us up at the airport for free; we wanted a car, and he arranged everything with the car rental (good car and cheap price); we needed equipment for visiting the island caves, and he provided all we needed (for free); we needed the check out late, and indeed he allowed us (for free).

To avoid confusion or misunderstanding with the room payment (you cannot do it online), just decide in advance whether you want to pay in USD or CLP, and confirm the price with the staff. I did it in this way and everything was perfect.

Thanks Sergio for the nice staying and for the great time on this wonderful island!

Considering the high prices of Easter Island, this is a very good hotel to stay. I choose a budget room with no ocean view, but at the end I just need to sleep there and in any case the ocean view is nothing spcial...
Segio, the owner, is very helpful and gives you good recommendations for your visit of the island.
Fantastic and abundant the breakfast that allows you to save some money at lunch time...
The only little defect (not of the hotel)? A cock in the surrounding area giving the wake up call early in the morning...
Good location that would even allow to get to/from the airport by foot (exactely 1 km, but it is generally not needed as hotel staff pick you up or bring you to the airport on arrival/departure) and aroun 500 m from the center (if so can be called considering the small size of Hanga Roa)
